The First Person Shooter genre is thriving on Microsoft's console, that's one of the most popular beliefs nowadays. However true it may sound, the reality seems to disagree. In fact, a recent study showed that FPS games don't even account for 11% of all Xbox 360 games.

FPS Source's numbers speak for themselves: only 15 FPS games have been made available for the console (10,8%), followed by an additional pack of 8 Third Person Shooter titles (5.8%):

"Based on 139 Xbox 360 games, I found that not even a fourth of them are considered as First Person Shooters or Third Person Shooters, even added together. The study includes the majority of the Xbox 360 games that have been released or to be released this month(August), as for all other titles; Halo 3 included, were not added as they haven't been released. Also, XBLA games were not factored in and neither was Virtual Console games for the Wii section of this study."

The most popular genre on the console is the Action/Action-Adventure (37 titles - 26.6%), followed closely by Sports games (36 titles - 25.9%).

The FPS genre even falls to make the third spot, which goes to Racing/Flying/Driving (17 titles - 12.2%).

kind of irrelevant, if you think about it. Who cares how many different titles there are? I'm sure Gears of War in itself has more active users then all the racing/simulation games put together.

I understand that common belief would make you think that if there is more of one type of genre available for a platform, then it must be the most popular genre for the system, as that article is trying to proove. But, as we all know as relatively avid gamers, this is simply not the case. Just look at the Top 10 games for Xbox 360 right now and there is your proof that it doesnt matter how many different titles a genre has, it's all about individual game popularity.

I never believe the 360 was only about shooters. It just so happens that the 360 has shooters that are REALLY good games that everyone likes to play so that tends to make everyone feel that that's the only type of game they can play on the 360...which is very wrong.

It doesn't matter as long as the game titles are somewhat balanced and the games are good thats all that counts.

Within the genre "shooter" there isn't necessarily a lot of variation. But within the genre "action/adventure" there is. For instance, Oblivion, Saint's Rowand Dead Rising wouldall fall into that category, but they're not exactly the same game, are they? And to merge racing, flying, and driving into one genre is another nice way of fudging the numbers.

In the end, you guys shouldn't try to hide the fact that one in six XBox 360 games is a shooter the way you are, because it comes off as pathetic.

Well if you want to look at it that way the PS3 has 1:3 titles which are shooters this year...so what's your point?

hey folks, can you get a keyboard/mouse setup on the 360? Im probably gonna go back to consoles coz im going to university and wont want to be spending cash on getting new GFX's all the time. If you ask me, you just cant be a keyboard and good mouse for an FPS, controllers just dont cut it. So, can you hook up a keyboard and mouse? Does it have to be a specialised Xbox one, or can you like just rig up a logitech?

Any USB keyboard will work, though I do not think there are any games out there that will support the mouse.

who cares if they have a lot of shooters? there is a lot of demand for shooters, and they are very different from each other.....compare FEAR to something like bioshock and they are both very unique even though both aree FPS. would you rather have a console with a ton of children's games featuring stuffed animals like the wii?
