The First Person Shooter genre is thriving on Microsoft's console, that's one of the most popular beliefs nowadays. However true it may sound, the reality seems to disagree. In fact, a recent study showed that FPS games don't even account for 11% of all Xbox 360 games.
FPS Source's numbers speak for themselves: only 15 FPS games have been made available for the console (10,8%), followed by an additional pack of 8 Third Person Shooter titles (5.8%):
"Based on 139 Xbox 360 games, I found that not even a fourth of them are considered as First Person Shooters or Third Person Shooters, even added together. The study includes the majority of the Xbox 360 games that have been released or to be released this month(August), as for all other titles; Halo 3 included, were not added as they haven't been released. Also, XBLA games were not factored in and neither was Virtual Console games for the Wii section of this study."
The most popular genre on the console is the Action/Action-Adventure (37 titles - 26.6%), followed closely by Sports games (36 titles - 25.9%).
The FPS genre even falls to make the third spot, which goes to Racing/Flying/Driving (17 titles - 12.2%).
