Hey all

I have recently gotten back into my XBox 360 for gaming (I have been playing Orange Box the last few days, well Half Life 2 specifically, and Crackdown before that) and I have noticed the last few days I have been raking in some achievements.

Now I find I actually enjoy this as I feel it is rewarding my perserverance with games and it makes me feel like playing the ones I have more to get more out of them. I dont think it will change me into I must do multiple playthroughs of games to get that 1000/1000 score but I like it when I can get a reasonable ammount of points from a game. In some ways I think it will affect how I go about buying games in the future as accessible achievements will be something I will consider along with enjoyment from the game, graphics etc. The total I have is quite low (7755 gs) but I dont mind that, more I enjoy it when I do get them.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on achievments?

They are fun to get when you are not expecting them, but I don't go out of my way to get them. I've had my 360 since launch and have something like 4300 points. I know there's tons of people who have had their systems for way less of a time, but have way more points than me. They're cool enough, but not something that is important to me at all.

I like them because they drive me to do those certain things in the game. I'd say it helps you get the most out of a game by knowing you've conquered most aspects of the game itself. Great idea and a great way to showcase the things you've done on your xbox that you actually have proof of.

i love achievements but it doesnt affect my 1st playtrough of any game at all. i like when occasionally pops up an achievement, its delicious xD then theres the replay value that offers to games, if i care how much score i have? No. but somehow i love to get them and increase the score, strange... its cool to show to people hard earned achievements and all, in general, i love em.

I like them although I dont go out my way to get them. If there is a game I like I try my best to get as many as possible. Some just take the p*ss though. But you do get a sense of satisfaction when the wee box pops up. Feels like you are well "achieving" something.

Yes I like them. They make me do things in games I wouldn't have thought of doing and they add replay value.

I like achievements yeah, but I hate multiplayer achievements! Achievements should be obtainable for everyone, not just the ones with Xbox live gold membership!...

I don't have tons of them (my score is 6745 as of yesterday), but I really enjoy trying to get them. It's a great feeling to try and get an achievment for a few days and then finally get it. I wish more were offline, I'm only silver on live.

I enjoy getting them, and do go for the full 1000 in each game - so far I have 27 games with 1000/1000

I love achievements. The first time through a game i will not try for them but, they add replay value and doing them help you master the game. They are awesome!

I'm completely hooked on them! :D When I got my 360 and after learning the ropes, I decided to try and 100% Hecix. It took me a while but I managed to do it. After seeing that 200/200 and feeling the satisfaction of completion I was addicted. :P I try to get as much as Achievements as I can from all my games. I'll do hard and tedious tasks unless they are borderline impossible. I also base my games on them. If it's unlikely for me to get >90% I'm less willing to get the game. I'm not going to turn down great games or buy crap like Avatar because of GamerScore though, that's just stupid. Nice to see ya back, G-man.:)

Achievements are a good thing to have around nowadays. Not only do they reward you for playing their expensive game it sometimes adds more replay value to it.Most games i dont actually try and get all the achievements,i just try to play and beat it,they are just a plus.

Most of the time they don't effect how I play I just see them pop up and grin.

Although sometimes If I really like a game and have beat it already I go back for achievements for replay value.

I try to get them because the game doesn't feel finished unless I have 1000k. It is also a good reason to play though the game again.

they're good because they make me play a game for longer than I otherwise would, and make me try different modes or gametypes.

I am the same, I would say perhaps we could have 1000 for offline and maybe 0 for online but you get achievments still like the 0 point ones I think Call of Duty World at War has or even break it down so 1000 for offline and 1000 online but some offline only can be extended or ones like Final Fantasy 11 are 2000 for online etc? I am wandering if people would buy the original Xbox games as well if they had achievments from XBLA?

I love achievements, they give me incentives for replaying games (which I loved to do before achievements came out) So a win win situation.

Yeah, I like them. Not enough to get all 1000 GS in a game but they add replay value because I try to get at least half of the achievements in a game.

tho i try to get a good amount of GS in a game, i dont go for 1000g for every game i posess, there is no point in busting your ass for a point total

I can see why some people like them but to me they're a waste of time and couldn't care less what achievement I get in a game. I was never really a fan of the hi-score type games anyway and they just seem like a glorified version of that.

I have taken quite a liking to Achievements. I like that throughout every game for 360 I buy, I can contribute to an overall score thing. :P I especially like random ones that pop up when I'm playing a game. Although lately I have been checking achievements beforehand, I don't check all the details so I can still be slightly surprised.

I find them and peoples insane pursuit of them really pointless, especially those who buy crappy games for easy achievements. I have always found that aspect stupid but now I have come to dislike them because it has become a business to take advantage of people who feel the need to pad that all to useless gamer score.

I think both are stupids moves, your buying achievements to raise a gamer score that has no monetary value. It would be one thing if you got like prizes for the score or something, but you pay to increase a useless score.

I think there fun. I dont get the complaint with them. Its not like they get in your way for getting them, and if you do like them, it something to keep you playing a game. It can actually be a good motivation to keep you going through a game even if you get stuck.

I like them if they are well-designed. I don't like it when a game offers achievements for needlessly difficult tasks (such as finding a bunch of items in a huge game world without any guidance whatsoever).

Yeah I know what you mean, the ones for kill X ammount of enemy Y in a game gets me usually, especially when they are really high, the 6 gunship one in Half Life 2 was fine with me.

Love them. Try to get as many as I can in each game I play, but stop if they start to irritate me, or I am not enjoying the game.
