I like them if they are well-designed. I don't like it when a game offers achievements for needlessly difficult tasks (such as finding a bunch of items in a huge game world without any guidance whatsoever). Yeah I know what you mean, the ones for kill X a\mount of enemy Y in a game gets me usually, especially when they are really high, the 6 gunship one in Half Life 2 was fine with me. Fallout 3 spoiler
In Fallout 3 there are two such "kill achievements," one for killing three hundred creatures and one for killing three hundred humans. Killing three hundred creatures takes MUCH less time (I'd say about 3/8 as much time) than killing 300 humans does.
It's not that I minded the sheer quantity involved. What bothered me was that the achievements were not balanced well, in my opinion.Hey all
I have recently gotten back into my XBox 360 for gaming (I have been playing Orange Box the last few days, well Half Life 2 specifically, and Crackdown before that) and I have noticed the last few days I have been raking in some achievements.
Now I find I actually enjoy this as I feel it is rewarding my perseverance with games and it makes me feel like playing the ones I have more to get more out of them. I dont think it will change me into I must do multiple playthroughs of games to get that 1000/1000 score but I like it when I can get a reasonable ammount of points from a game. In some ways I think it will affect how I go about buying games in the future as accessible achievements will be something I will consider along with enjoyment from the game, graphics etc. The total I have is quite low (7755 gs) but I dont mind that, more I enjoy it when I do get them.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on achievements?
