Considering you can get a DVD player for like $30...why would you want to drop $200+ for one that may crap out on you? Buh buh Netflix...I seriously doubt someone buys an Xbox so they can watch their Netflix off of their TV, it'd be much more beneficial and efficient for them to just Netflix off their computer. So in short, no I do not know anyone who buys a 360 just for viewing things (though I'm not saying that it's impossible, just highly unlikely).CTUDudePeople have been known to buy a PS3 for Blu-ray though.

Although I did not buy a PS3 just for movies. I tend to use it more as a media center for divx and music. I do use the xbox for alot of other things besides games like talking/webcam to my family across the country and streaming movies to it. I find it easier than trying to set up a computer cam for them and it is a lot cheaper than the phone. So I could see others buying one for a lot of other things besides games but not just those reasons.

Uhm, maddenbowler, at elast this guy actually posted a GOOD post, unlike the terrible one you have about Prototype. So you get the help. And no, I don't think anyone buys the xbox360 for that reason.
A good post? a post about buying the 360 only as a DVD player? while im the one out there possibly saving people $60 on a pretty overpriced game[QUOTE="holy_terr0r"][QUOTE="MaddenBowler10"]you sir..need some helpMaddenBowler10

Even if price wasn't a factor, out of the box it is not the ideal DVD player. It is loud so if you are watching a quiet movie it can get distracting. It is fairly large with a sizable power brick and puts out a fair bit of heat. Also, while you can use the standard controller, getting the media remote would be the best way to go. If you wanted to pick up an HD-DVD player and disks on the cheap I guess I could see doing that.
Overall it is functional as a DVD player but there are far better and lower cost players available on the market.

At the same time, when the PS3 first came out it was actually a reasonably priced Blu-Ray player that also played games. I'm sure the price of Blu-ray players have come down a lot since then while the PS3 price is staying similar, but it's still a great way to get a Blu-ray player if that's what your into and they have some games that could appeal to those who aren't hardcore players like Little Big Planet.

that's because i believe it's the cheapest blueray player out on the market.

Yeah...but DVD has been around for how long now? At the time the PS3 was actually a cheap alternative to getting a stand-alone Blu-Ray because not only does it have the ability to constantly update itself (BD Live), but it could be used as a media centre as well. However, with Blu Ray players at $99, it be odd just for someone to buy a $400 PS3 to watch Blu Rays, they'd have to do other things with it too.
Yes i have one for that very purpose. i do however use my HD-DVD player to play the DVD's. My daughter also uses it daily to watch disney shows via netflix. She loves it. Just about every episode to all her shows are on there.
Oh and the image quality to me is amazing as well. For the guy up top that said why not hook a pc to your tv to watch netflix,,,, last time I checked you can't get a pc for $200 bucks that can stream netfix without crapping on the quality.

Yea I agree with this.....I have watched a couple but when wanting to watch some without using the Home Theater, then the old trusty slim PS2 does the trick, hey less power, less heat, and less noise. Everybody wins.....Even if price wasn't a factor, out of the box it is not the ideal DVD player. It is loud so if you are watching a quiet movie it can get distracting. khhsdude
I guess it would be a reason you would buy it, but if it's for movies only than it's a waste of 200 dollars.
