So which one is better and why? For shooting games only where you have to aim manually.

How do xbox 360 players to NOt get frsutrated?

Does the xbox 360 controller respond to small changes?

Mouse>Controller. The really diehard FPS players probably own XFPS, the keyboard/mouse plugin for the 360. It works well, has small issues, but nothing you can't get over.

The controllers not so bad though, considering most people have the same disadvantage, it works just fine. I'd rather CoD4 on my huge TV sitting comfortably on my couch...but it comes at a small price(control).

Mouse > Controller without a doubt.

I just feel more comfortable and precise using a mouse/keyboard combo over the 360 controller. I haven't tried the XFPS accessory yet tho so I can't comment on that, but the controller response differs from game to game. For the most part it works great, after playing for about an hour or so you'll get a feel for the aiming system of whatever game.

I'd much prefer to use a mouse instead of the controller for FPS games, but they aren't supported (wish they were).

A mouse gives you much greater sensitivity and precision, and doesn't have the deadzone that thumbsticks have impeding small, fast, accurate movements.

From what I've read XFPS has very mixed reviews, and is expensive to buy. When the 360 has USB ports its frustrating that you can't just plug in a USB mouse and keyboard and start playing with it. As long as everyone can do it, then it doesn't make it unfair to those who want to stick with the pad. They'll still be worse off, but have the option of using it.

You should check it out, my complaint is that you need a high table in front of your couch for it to be comfy. Using it on a coffee table will just turn you into a hunchback.

Even if you just get some sort of Laptop table for your couch, it will work great.

It's a little expensive, but if you'll pay 100$ for Guitar Hero, than a diehard FPS fan wouldn't mind dropping 70-80$ for it. Odds are you have a mouse and keyboard already.

Mouse + keyboard is far superior to the controller for FPS. Much more precise, you can turn to face the opposite direction instantly if you're getting shot from behind. I am much better at multiplayer FPS with a keyboard + mouse.

Controller is far superior for sports games. More fluid controls with the numberous button options all within thumbs reach.

And driving games. :D

To be entirely truthful, I think a mouse is the better aiming device. Notice I didn't say keyboard. I said mouse.

I've tried playing Counter-Strike on my PC, and I'm not used to playing with a mouse (so I suck. A lot.) but I can already see that it's a lot more precise than an analog stick. For forward and backward movement, though, I prefer an analog stick.

I can't use the mouse/kb anymore after getting used to the controller. I find the clumsiness of using 2 seperate objects to control one character overcomes the benefit of faster headshot aiming.

Is this really a question? A mouse/keyboard setup will always be vastly superior in FPS games. Hell you might as well ask "XBox 360 vs Wii graphics, which is better?". :P That being said, I don't know how well a mouse/keyboard setup would work with consoles on a TV/HDTV. My GPU has HDMI out and I have a wireless keyboard and mouse... I just can't picture myself ever using it to play my PC games on my HDTV. If the 360 ever did decide to allow mouse/keyboard setups as an alternative, I would probably just hook the 360 into my PC monitor and play that way.

IM the only one I know of that thinks the controler is better. I have had my time with m/k and have been on top of OGL for being the best at Medal of Honor games on PC...BUT...I just find the controler better. K/M....carpal tunnel ....Controler...kicked back and only one item to hold and use...Just better all around for me.

Im one for the Controller>Mouse any day of the week. Im sorry but shooters shouldnt exist with a mouse and keyboard. Its horrible. People who suck with a controller will say a mouse is more precise because it isnt. If anything you just turn faster but that makes for lousy aim.

I prefer controllers, specifically... 360 Controller > XboX Controller > DS3.

WASD feels extremely out of place to me for shooters...

I don't know about that one...As much as I'd like to support your argument, if you ever watch some old videos of the European clans playing Counter-Strike, no controller will ever be that fast or accurate.

Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just more accurate with the mouse... I'm actually REALLY good with the mouse, which sucks when I have to play shooters on a console

Mouse definetly but at a proffesional level with a controller players can still do amazing. But Mouse>Controller in FPS its just so much easier and precise, you can move your whole palm where controllers just your thumbs to aim.

For a controller you also have to turn the sens up quite a bit from default settings most of the time at a competetive level anyway.

Think about it this way.

In real life, when you aim a gun, do you move your thumb to aim?

This discussion has been done.

It's not a matter of opinion/preference. It's simple fact that the mouse is miles better than an analogue stick in terms of precision and responsiveness.

Which one someone prefers is up for debate, but simple advantage if given the the Kboard/Mouse setup.

Obviously, mouse and keyboard is better. Why else would they add aim assist in games on consoles but not on the PC?

But then it's still personal preference. I'm really unused to playing with mouse/keyboard becuase my PC wasn't good enough to play any good FPSs until just recently so I'm much more used to controller.

McJugga

Think about this...When shooting a gun do you move your whole hand and push buttons on one thing then fiddle with 120 buttons trying to move around and load your gun?

OR....Would you pull a trigger on one small device and move slowly? Taking your time to get the right shot...

I know neither of our analogies are very true or really matter, but I thought I would throw that at you...just a thought.

The mouse's turning only makes for lousy aiming if you don't learn how to move it to make a turn just right or if you need to adjust the sensitivity. Keyboard & mouse is much, much better in my opinion.

I prefer a controller, preferably the Xbox 360 controller over other consoles and the PC. If it's an FPS, I can play with controller or mouse/keyboard. I've gotten use to all of it that it doesnt affect my gameplay experience.

On a controller you also press buttons to aim, etc.

I was comparing the mouse to the analogue stick, and leaving the keyboard out.

But, when you are in a team based game online, being able to type with a keyboard really helps. This way you can inform your team of what is going on.

A mic is much better but not everyone has one or wants to use one.

If given the choice, I will always prefer the mouse. After playing a few FPS's on the 360, I don't find it too bad. And as someone has already said, its a small price to pay to play on your big HDtv.

they both have their advantages. the mouse is great for precise aiming and quick reflexes. but with a 360 controller, all your button and commands are right in your hand. instead of keeping your hand on WASD controls, and trying to get that pesky sprint button, SHIFT, it hurts! the 360 controller is just more comfortable in my opinion

You can say you like the controller better, but to say a mouse isn't more precise is just foolish. I've played fps's since Wolfenstein on both pc and console, and mouse/keyboard offers vastly superior control. That being said, I'm quite good with a controller as well. With a controller you can't walk into a room and in like 1/4 of a second scan the whole room.

What is this XFPS yo speak of? i need to get one of these...

xXmeatwad225Xx

After reading this post, I went and looked the XFPS up. Here's IGN's review. Apparently, it doesn't work so well. It would be pretty terrific if they made a working mouse/keyboard for 360 games. Of course, I'd have to re-arrange things so I have a flat surface to put that crap on; no more gaming in my big, leather chair.

[QUOTE="Nocturnal15"]

Im one for the Controller>Mouse any day of the week.

Endgame_basic

You can say you like the controller better, but to say a mouse isn't more precise is just foolish. I've played fps's since Wolfenstein on both pc and console, and mouse/keyboard offers vastly superior control. That being said, I'm quite good with a controller as well. With a controller you can't walk into a room and in like 1/4 of a second scan the whole room.

Same here. I've been playing shooters since Doom in 1994. A mouse is superior to an analogue stick in about every respect. If you're playing Unreal Tournament on your PC, and you get hit from behind, you can do a 180 in a tenth of a second, faster than you can blink an eye. You can't look around nearly that fast with a controller. A mouse is better for fine movement too. When I'm sniping on the controller, I often use the left stick (strafe) for precise lateral movement. I don't need to do this with a mouse. If I want to move my reticle two pixels to the left, no problem.

I suggest that anyone who promotes a controller over a mouse, probably hasn't been playing shooters for a long time (a decade or more). As I said in my first post, it's all what you're used to, but for someone who has mastered both disciplines, a mouse is undeniably more precise.

...with a 360 controller, all your button and commands are right in your hand. instead of keeping your hand on WASD controls, and trying to get that pesky sprint button, SHIFT, it hurts! the 360 controller is just more comfortable in my opinion

dark-DROID

On the other hand, I do agree with that. I remember playing Half-Life back in the day, my first WASD game. I developed whole science of keeping my pinky finger intact, while still pressing the spring and crouch buttons.

Hehe. I'm amused when someone screws up spelling something in their signature or a thread title. It's really funny when they come up with a word so butchered, it can't just be a simple typo. We had a "costumer" here on the forum the other day instead of "customer," implying that the author really didn't know how to spell the word.
