I'm looking to buy a new Xbox. I'm not sure whether to buy the Elite or the Slim. The Elite is 50 dollars cheaper and I have no need for a 250GB Hard Drive and I already have a wireless network adapter. I think I'd be willing to spend the extra money for the Slim only if it is significantly more reliable (in other words, is less prone to crash / overheat) than the Elite. So is it?

my xbox broke monday night, im buying one of the new slims because although the elites are cheaper, my friend has had far too much trouble with his elites, they always get the E74 warning, or rrod. i also think the new ones are supposed to be more reliable. and i have a wireless network adaptor too and i suppose its a little bit of a waste but you can always sell it. i guess i admit i didnt really think about it but elites arent much cheaper brand new, and id rather go with the new model. im also getting a free transfer cable with it. to be honest, just read reviews find out peoples experience with both machines and then decide. the large harddrive is a big plus for me, i buy a lot of games and id like to be able to get more dlc too so i can also instal my games to make them run smoother and put less stress on the disk drive

The elite is better though, but somehow retailers are crowded with slim's. They do have a refurbished elite in best buy still.

One thing I've heard and I hate about the slim is that it can scratch discs if being moved, so if I were you if you'd want to move it you just take the disc out and move it before putting in any discs.

Note: If a Disc is scratched then the system CANNOT play that game. a

One tip: Don't move xbox 360 slims when they have a disc in them. Just DO NOT move them when they have a disc at all costs, please comply with this.

This is why I choose the elite because it gives no problems. I have a mate that had the elite for 7 months and had NO problems at all. Choose what you want.

Alright thanks everyone for the feedback. The smaller hard drive on the elite isn't really an issue for me considering I don't download that many things on my xbox at all. Also, is it just me or does the Xbox 360 Slim look / feel cheaper than the Xbox 360 Elite? Finally, the reason I'm so concerned with the reliability of the machines is that my second, regular 20GB Xbox has been a victim of the red rings of death. If a third dies I'm basically swearing off Microsoft.

Well the slim or the elite shouldn't give any problems, they created a new chipset which will cool everything down.

Oh okay.

So I guess the main tip is never move those consoles when they have a disc with them. Thats how discs get spoiled.

Your discs get spoiled then you can't play the game at all.

Sorry, just comply with what I said and you'll be fine.

Dude get the Slim. They combined the CPU and GPU into one die, making everything run much cooler. Not to mention the sheer amount of vents that thing has. And the 250 GB hard drive? That's icing on the cake as it'll let you install many games at once. I have about 14 games installed to it and I have more than 100 GB free. Installing games is probably the most important thing you can do to prolong the life of both your console and your games. I owned a Jasper Elite before it and it froze with every game I played. Not to mention that the disk space was too small for me personally.

And I much prefer the look of the Slim to my old Elite. It's more compact and has that sexy glossy look.

That slim has the jasper chip which can cool off the system, correct?

Just making sure lol. Because I don't want to get RRoD again.

The chipset is smaller than the Jaspers's despite the combination. Overall, it helps to reduce technical failures that plagued the older Xboxes.

Xbox Halo Reach Console hands down. I just bought mine and im really happy about it. I am in no way a Halo fanboy either. It was either that or a 4gb Slim. 4gb being out of the question I went with the Halo box as last resort. But im really glad I did. Check my blog to see all my thoughts and what I feel is good about it. :)

I traded in my refurbished out of warranty Elite for a Slim because I wanted more hard drive space, wifi, and a quieter console with a new warranty. It was truly an upgrade for me.

I traded in a launch 360 for slim. GREAT decision. I'm not 100% sure but I think the elite was close to the launch version. I would honestly get the slim over the elite.

Get the Slim. You won't regret it.
