I'm going to buy a 360 soon and I'm wondering if I should get the extra cooling systems for 15-20 bucks. But I also heard this may be unnecessary as the red ring of death is now eliminated in all new Xbox's.

Also I'm wondering where I should place my 360 as I usually put it with my Gamecube and N64 which is in a little corner in my living room.

How should I place it and should I get extra cooling

I just want it to live :(

No need for extra cooling if you're planning on getting a falcon xbox 360. Another thing you should be worried about is the disc drive. You'll need to go to your local stores (yes, I said stores) and write down the sticker info on every xbox 360 you see over there. Then head back home and log in on 360drives.com and input the info on the filter bars. That way, you can test the probability of getting a Hitachi-LG drive and a falcon 360. God, why didn't Microsoft drop that crappy drive brand? I thought Lite-On has the exclusive rights to produce the disc drives used on 360s?

forget about any extra intercoolers. Just have it horizontal and have it in an open area with space in the back to breathe.

No... It can cause the Red Ring of Death. Which happened to me. I even called them, and they said dont use it, and if it does over heat stop playing.

Theres these fans that you can buy but you have to install them yourself which voids your warrenty (opening your 360 to install them) plsu Microsoft can detect (over Live) any extra device installed so they will ban you.

But its suppose to stop RROD so its gotta be good XD

Don't spend your money on something that is under a 3 year warranty.

I can't speak for the cooling fans because I don't have one, but I can say AVOID the ones that work off of the 360's power supply at all costs. They cause more heat and damage to consoles! There are some USB ones that don't generate so much heat, and I've seen one that has it's own separate power supply.

And yes, it does have a three year warranty... but then again there's a damn good chance you'll send it in for repairs and get an older model refurbished (that may not even have HDMI) and you won't be able to play any XBLA content unless you're signed in. Not to mention the thousands of horror stories of people sending their Xbox away for a month, just to get the "new" one back, turn it on, play for 5 minutes, and get the RRoD again and have to send it right back.

If I can avoid all that headache for $20 it's well worth it.

what about those infos ppl talk about..i've heard it's also up to the some digits on your power brick,if it says 175 w then it's falcon and if it says 203 it's not,is it true? i really doubt,my friends's 360 says 185 w..

I wouldn't get the extra cooling. The failure rate is down to 16% and if you use an intercooler you may void the warranty in the event you do get the dreaded red rings.

I'm not sure why people worry so much about this, MS will fix it for free for 3 years.

for some 360's it is true but its not 100% accurate because my brother has the falcon chip and his 360 brick says 203 watts....... also on the note do u have a premium 360 and if u do and u have hdmi on it u have the falcon chip.

Don't buy the cooling fans. just keep it in an open space where it can get good airflow. as for the falcon thing, check the build date, and yes my power brick says 175w but some falcons still have the 230w brick. If you have to know just type in "xbox falcon" in google and you should find some methods of checking.

first of all, red ring of death has nothing to do with overheating. red ring of death is a general hardware failure. but whatever you do, do not buy a cooling attatchment. i know someone that got their 360 fried from one. and they wont replace it because its an item that they didnt produce, so it cancelled out their warrenty.
