Mine just failed, I better be getting MY console back and not someone else's. I have heard about them doing that, where they just send you someone elses refurbished one. If that is the case im going to be less then impressed.

Perhaps Ms hould be putting its money into fixing its console, than throwing it at devlopers desperate for content.

2 year warranty in my country for all electronic purchases. However when I buy something I'd like it to actually last many years which all my stuff has, so I'm hoping the 360 will too but it just keeps popping up in my head when I start gaming. It's really annoying. I never think about that stuff when I fire up my PC, TV, PS2 (4 years old) or stereo ... So if you are lucky, your 360 won't be showing the three red rings but it's always something you think about and it's not very relaxing.

Unfortunately I am not lucky as I got the red lights on monday. The one thing I dont want is someone else's console. I paid for MY console, I expect MY console to get fixed and sent back to me. I dont know why that bugs me so much, but it does.

From what I've heard you can end up with a brand new console or a used one that has been fixed. And I agree - It's either returning your console from repairs or get a new one. If I got a used console after I sent mine to get repaired, I would send it right back. You pay for a product and if it doesn't work you should get a new one, not some old scratchy yellow'ish used one.

You'd think by now that Microsoft would have figured out a new cooling design to help solve the overheating issues with the chip(s), but also more importantly that they should take some of those 65µm chips they're giving the Elite and rolling them out throughout the whole product line.

Exactly, who knows how that previous owner treated their console. They could have took a dump on it and MS wouldn't care as long as it is working fine, but that is not fine with me. I'm sure I am exaggerating a bit, but its still the principle. I will be calling tonight to make sure when they send it back it is not someone else's they are sending.

yeah, I sent mine in and got one back like 4 days later. A refurbished one though. I could easily tell since mine was in perfect condition and the one I received was not

And that right there is not right at least form a consumer stand point.

I dont buy a new car, send it to the dealer to get it fixed andfor them to give me someone else's car instead, It could have higher "mileage"and more abuse put towards it.

Sometimes I regret getting a 360. Although my console has been fine for a year now I just keep hearing these stories.

its funny but as i read this forum, i laughed and said "at least my 360 works" and as i scrolled down i turned my xbox on for some gaming. now in my suprise i look at 3 red lights blinking, laughing back at me. So now im calling support and i must say, you are paying a weeks salary for this thing, a week with no food for some and what you get is a product that fails 30% of the time. its high enough to call for a recall or at least a class action lawsuit. im really pissed right now.

I haven't had to send mine back yet (had it since March 06), but sometimes it doesn't start up properly and it has disc read errors sometimes. Same old Microsoft...

They really NEED to work on the reliability of their consoles for the next (future) gen. The originally Xbox had a lousy DVD drive and it's gone downhill form there.

A local forum I post on is tracking failure rates, this is the current results. Wii and PS3 = 0 Failures, 0 Faults DS = 4% failure rate PSP = 10% failure rate. The number of PSPs/DSs is lower in this case so dont get to hooked on 10%. Low sample and all. 360 = 35% failure rate, 4 faults. Not looking so good. (Updated with todays info... 34 to 35% now)

The Xbox 360 is the best gaming console to date. PERIOD. Live with it. Cry about your PS3 being nothing but a cheap Blu-Ray player some where else - because it's definetaly not a good game console. So 30% or not, get a warranty on it like the insurance you have on your car and quit crying about it... wah wah wah

Well that was mature & well thought-out.

But as far as sending your console in for repairs, MS makes every effort to repair your console & send it back to you. If they cannot fix yours for any reason, you will get someone else's refurbished console. But no one is getting brand new consoles, that's not happening.

Your analogy is retarded. Car insurance is for accidents or theft. They dont cover manufacture defects...

Thus far, they seem to be saying that these failures don't have the same roots, which is ridiculous because it is quite clear that overheating is the major issue. Refurbished consoles are getting an extra heatsink, Elites were shipped with solid-state capacitors, and the GPU is soon to be 65nm. MS knows what the problem is, and they are only making themselves look bad by not admitting it because everyone else knows it as well. And more, we know that THEY know, because they are scurrying to cover it all up and save face.

There is a set of issues. Overheating is one, as is the bad PSU, then there is the disk drive issues and something that we probably havent even heard of. They got along way to go.

i heard that the "official" fail rate was 40%, but i'm sure it at least 60 i mean c'mon if you ask the majority of people on here they will all say they are on there 2nd 3rd or 4th 360 and i by the 5th they just give up and throw it out their window

You know whats funny? The fact that when mine first broke down and I made a topic on here, everyone was calling my a troll and to go back to the sony forums and that I don't know how to take care of my system. Now people are FINALLY realizing that the 360 is a POS with awesome games and amazing online service. I'm on my 3rd one and two of my friends are on their 2nd one. I am hoping that M$ is going to make another version of the 360 (like the elite, but that it actually will last the consumer many years) by the end of this year.

When I find a product is a dud, i tend to want it wiped from the face of the earth, not go through 15 more variations to get it right.

My personal failure rate with the thing is 100%. I'm now going to be on my fifth 360. The last one was brand new with a manufacture date of april 2007. If you have a 360, if it hasn't aready died, it will die sooner or later.

"No comment" "I dont remember of the console you are refering to" "We have a patch coming tuesday" "The 360 is more secure than linux". You know, the usual crap.
