Do you all think that the chip is going to be the savior for the 360, and more so for those getting the Elite?

It's just that Mircosoft isn't guranteeing that this will solve everything. I mean the problems could still continue, you gotta admit there is a chance of these failures staying with the machine.

I don't want to think this way but you just can't go around thinking " Yup with the new 65nm chip my 360 will never break"

it will never be 100%, but the new 65 nm chip should be cheaper, and have an acceptable failure rate.

Its just a revision to the console, it wont look any different. It should just be cheaper to make and less likely to break.

Yeah, it should lessen some problems, but not by a lot.

I can't believe how they make a perfect system that was the original Xbox, mine never broke. And it's still purring like a kitten now. Then they make the 360 and problems galore.

So the big thing is maybe this chip will work, and maybe it won't. So we're all given a 50/50 chance.

its not 50/50, the problem has to do with the GPU not getting enough cooling. The smaller sized chips will allow more air to circulate, and allow for more heatsinks in the system. This issue is similar to the early ps1 systems, except in those systems the optical drive was overheating and getting misaligned. This is why some people were able to turn the ps1 upside down or sideways and it would work. The ps1 fault wasnt as much an instant death either.

But do you think it's worth the money for me to shell out $480 on the Elite when it gets the chip? I just don't want my money to go down the drain, on something that could bust later?

Listen, if Microsoft is saying that this might not completely solve the problem then don't count on it to be solved at all. I partially work for Microsoft and know them all too well. I don't think that this new chip will solve the problem. I am personally going to wait until Microsoft truely figures out what's wrong with their system before commiting my 480 dollars to a system that I know is going to break. I am currently happy with my PS3 even though I really wanted to buy a 360 for Gears of War and Forza 2 (played Forza in Target and was really good), but I guess if they don't solve the problem by the time GT5 comes out, I won't even be getting the system considering that Gears is coming to the PC with extra content and within six months or so GT5 will come out. meanwhile I will be playing many games like UT3, haze, heavenly sword, lair, dirt, warhawk and others.
