Is their any way to swap dvd drives? Does it have to be the same manufacturer? I would like to get rid of my dirty disc read error. I've read that Samsung Drives are the culprit. Was curious if their was a way to switch to BenQ.

Or possibly the louder Hitachi drive.

Really, I've read that samsung are notorious for dirty disc error. Hitachi the same?Vamp112
Hitachis are even louder.
[QUOTE="Zoobaz"]Thats what I want to know about. Is it possible to swap to BenQ?but they are turning into the infamous DDE
I swapped out my samsung for the hitachi no problems so far

If it's not broke don't fix it.

I hear ya, but would rather fix the problem before the warranty runs out.Yes you can but there isnt a lot of places offering the BenQ replacement you'll have to take apart you xbox 360, then disconnect the Sata and the power cable in the 360 connected to your drive. Then put the new drive in. I found tons of places offering the Hitachi DVD Drive GDR-3120L. But I have a flashed Toshibia-Samsung Drive and it works perfect had it since launch. Is their any way to swap dvd drives? Does it have to be the same manufacturer? note you don't have to have those tools. Just a Torx-10. And a small part to go in were that key is spose to go.
Where can you get the Benq drives?Avalos86I'm sure if you get the serial number, or whatever you can google the drive numbers. I'm looking for the best way to flash the drive. I can handle taking it apart. Nice... Like to dissect. I'm curious about what software, but I have a msg from another user pointin me in the right direction. thanks.
gamespot dosent allow people to talk about moding. xbox-scene.com is the answer to your flashing needs. it's possible to replace your drives but of course it'll void your warrenty. it's not that hard you could do it in about 15 minutes (unless your quick taking off the case) if you know some. good luckbudorzIt's not modding in a illegal way, he just want's to change his drive...calm down nobodys talking about anything other than making a swap of the drives to avoid having to dish out unecessary money to Microsoft to ultimately fix the drive the same way he want's to.
How hard it to flash a drive, I'm not a beginner, but would rather not screw this up. Know of any sights, that give the step by step. Thanks for the tutorial on opening the box, pretty easy. Nice image tutorial. Thanks again.Vamp112No its not that hard. I did it and it took me about one solid hour doing it, you just have to make sure you got a SATA connecter in your PC and you can turn RAID off. Vist http://www.360mods.net/ for more info.

Your best bet is getting one off ebay right now. But its hard to find them sold seperatly because they are so new.

There is no way of putting a new brand of drive in your 360. You can only replace it with the same model. The drive is tied to the system.

I believe you´re right!
Its not like the old Xbox, where you could swap any original Dvd drive, in case your drive was dead!

check xbox-scene.com, it has all the info you want.
I know that they are louder, but I can deal will louder, as long as it quit getting the dirty disc error. I take care of everything I buy, so believe me when I say its all clean, even the hardware. Leaves me to believe that the dvd drive is cheap. I've had problems with standalone samsung dvd players before, any thoughts about what my best options would be. Anywhere I can get new hardware drives, circuit boards.Vamp112really, cuz my disc drive is noisy AND i get the disc read error. btw, how can it tell wther my drive is hitachi or samsung

That is kinda correct and kinda incorrect, you can't just pop the drive in the 360 and expect it to work. You'll have to take the key from your old drive and put it in the new drive (all current 360 drives can be swapped out for other drives NOT including the benq since that drive is still in an unknown state).... if memory serves me correctly. But it may not be possible with the Benq drives depending on what lockout features they put on that drive. Please Log In to post.
