Read it on Gamespot's "Rumor Control" section. The "Xbox 360 Ultimate" is said to rival the PS3. It is also said to be equipped with 1080p video output, built in Wi-Fi, a "near-silent fan" to cool the 65nm CPU and GPU (which I have no clue to what it is), and a "massive 320 GB."

It's quieter, and cooler. Well it's quieter cause it's cooler.

And I think it'll have a Blu-ray Disc drive, not HD-DVD. They've been quoted saying that were Blu-ray to win the HD war, that they would be more than ready to support it. And by the looks of things, HD-DVD doesn't have much time left.

Ya man, I actually did not upgrade from my premium to an elite because I decided to wait it out for either a new sku or an upgraded elite sku, and instead got a PS3. But this would be sweet if its real, I would totally buy it day one, This is what I have been waiting for, but in all honesty I dont think you have anything to worry about, I kinda feel that its not real, and even if it is, I dont think they will use the HD-DVD drive for games and if they do, you will prolly be able to go pick up the addon and use that, and also, not every game would be HD-DVD, and some would prolly be availible in both formats. But if its not real, then I will prolly moan alittle and still wait till Q4, because there is still lots of shows this year including E3, where they could possibly show announce it if it exist, and if not announced by october or november, I will go out in Nov and get a holiday elite package because they always have one and it will prolly come with 2 decent games that I dont have.

I don't buy anything on day one for a few reasons:

1. Minnesota winters are harsh, and I'm not standing in front of the local electronics store for 2 days. I value my toes too much.

2. Everything is rushed into production, and the quality of the initial product blows.

3. Waiting 6 to 12 months will not only save you some $.

we will find out tommorow, and actually even if they dont announce it there, that still dosent mean it's not real, they could easily wait for another show in the coming months, whenever like with the elite, or at E3.

Oh and by the way, if the announcment is not the ultimate then ms better have something really kickass to show because so many people are gonna be disappointed at this point, I will be one of them because this sku sounds really tempting and I totally skipped on the elite in hopes of a newer, better sku. Oh and a announcment that would be bigger then the ultimate that could make people forget about all the ultimate talk is a MS Handheld gaming device, and im actually surprised absolutly no one has actually said anything about a possible handheld gaming deviced being announced.

Ya but that is a spokesperson for ms, trust me, if this is real, the only people who know the truth are Bill gates and the higher up execs. They would not want official word to slip out and they wouldnt even want a spokesperson coming out and saying "we do not comment on rumors and speculation" because that always means its true, and that would totally blow the big announcment. But to be honest with you, I have my doubts, and I am also leaning towards false, but we will have to wait until tomorow night to find out, and if its not, I hope its something awesome, and not Gears 2, because they are suppose to have guests and the first thing that came to my mind when I read about guests was Mark Rein and Cliffy B coming out with a Gears2 logo burning on the screen and announcing a Q4 08 release and telling everyone to take a look at the first trailer. But like I said, even if they dont announce the ultimate, they could have a new sku to announce that is not labled the ultimate and they could also wait until another show or E3 to announe the ultimate or a new sku.

well whats funny is on the back of the spider man 3 blu ray case and maybe others if not all, under the small tiny copyright text stuff, it calls it DVD because they just used the same old stuff from the DVD version.

Video games is an established market, has been for decades. But one of the key reasons that VHS tapes, CDs, and DVDs gained wide acceptance across the nation and were not just "fads" for the rich people, is that the proprierty (spl?) information for VCRs and DVD players was licensed or attained by multiple manufacturers. If the 360 is licensed out to other manufacturers, despite how unlikely that would be, it would mean more variety, possibly better (and poorer) build quality, and ultimately, cheaper prices in a much faster form than waiting for the Next-next gen to be announced, making the current next-gen systems last-gen. This move could make the 360 finally into the entertainment center of people's houses like Microsoft envvisioned years ago when they announced the 360 and it's quirky name.

However, the main reason I doubt this will happen is this: brand name recognition. With multiple manufacturers, Microsoft would have less and less control over the quality of the systems. Sure, some might be better than their own, there would be bound to be plenty that come out of the box with FAR more problems than 360s do nowadays. This in the end could hurt the 360 brand name, and doom the console. It's a tossup on the benefits versus the drawbacks for external licensing. I'm thinking that rather Microsoft is looking into increasing their manufacture base, hoping to continue to cut down on costs for the system.

What Microsoft should really do, if they truly wish to compete with the PS3 over the next 2 years (which will define the winner of this next-gen console war) is match them in advertising. Since the PS3 has come out, I can barely remember the last 360 commercial I've seen. And I don't have cable, I use an antenna to get local national broadcast networks (CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX). But what I do see is atleast 3-5 PS3 ads every day. If the Microsoft wants to avoid the fate of the Dreamcast, they need to advertise more, and more on networks the majority of the nation watch, and not on cable networks. When the PS1, Dreamcast, and Gamecube wars were going down, video game ads on TV were about 90% PS1, 9% Nintendo, and 1% Dreamcast. And Sega wonders why their far more advanced system (it was the first to have online play and a modem, and brought about great games like 2K Sports and Soul Calibur), they can blame their PR dept. for not realizing the power of advertisement and word of mouth. Sony is not the richest corporation in the United States. Microsoft is. So put that money to use if you really want to stay in the lead, MS.

Oh and Sony does not own Blu-ray, they are just huge supporters of it. So it could be a blu ray player, the ultimate kick in the balls to sony, but I highly doubt it.

I doubt they will release this new Ultimate with HD-DVD internal. I think they might cancel the whole thing. Plus I read that MS said they aren't going to do it because of the HD-DVD already avaliable. And also that they like to have the gamers have a choice and they can buy it if they really want to. It's not like they're going to make xbox 360 HD-DVD games this gen and I think that the next xbox will have blu-ray next gen.

Lol, that's funny. Sony wouldn't necessarilly want to be too choosy on who they let and don't let use the Blue-Ray. If they want to get Blue-Ray to be the next media medium, they'll give it to whoever wants to support it. Remember, Sony doesn't exactly have a good track record with new mediums they've created. Remember the micro-discs? When was the last time you saw a mini-CD?

And Microsoft likewise wants to have their technology used in as many places as possible. If they weren't willing to cooperate, then how exactly did Windows take over the computer market place? Why is it Windows vs. Apple, rather than Windows vs. Linux? The only reason Apple has survived and put up such a fight is because they build their own systems. But how many other manufacturers make IMacs? Not many, because they prefer to go with Windows, and therefor PCs.

Good points, but I think the ultimate will happen and if not the ultimate I think a sku named something else will happen that is the same as the rumors or just a little different and even if it dont have an HD-DVD drive, the ultimate is still an awesom sku. But we may find out tommorow but I think the only thing we will find out tommorow is if we will have to wait until now to E3 on if this is real or not.

Sony owns the logo. Blu-ray was developed by philips development of the format were Pioneer, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp and Samsung.
