Don't call, you must email or actually write them. They need it in writing or via an email. Most likely they go through an outside agency for their billing and a phone call just won't do it. Plus when you send an email it's dated and you have the proof you need.

wow, you should sue microsoft

porky_ownsu

Sue Microsoft? Baaaddd idea. Unless you have thousands and thousands of dollars to throw away, you're SOL.

But seriously, to cancel your account, I'd call the Better Business Bureau. Explain to them what has happened to you over the last four years, and they will get you your money back, send a bad review to MS, and your account will definitely be cancelled. No joke. Just go to http://www.bbb.org/

[QUOTE="Goose312"]Let me tell you a little story I like to call "Why I now only own non-Microsoft related consoles." It all began 4 years ago. Almost to the day. I decided to sign up for an xbox live account since my best friend had one and seemed to enjoy it. I selected the annual subscription as it seemed to be the best deal and I figured I would be playing enough with the coming summer holiday to make good use of it. However, over the next few months I played less and less, really stopping completely after about half a year. Naturally I forgot about my subscription and come end of April my now unused xbox live account was renewed. Now this was my own fault as I never bothered to call in and cancel, and as such I decided to do so at that time. After hours of scouring the xbox site looking for a method to cancel my account or a number which might yield similar results, I finally found a number to connect to the representatives who controlled my xbox live account and after a lengthy attempted sales pitch (c'mon, do those things ever work?) I was told that my account was closed. Time passed, a year in fact, and low and behold, what should appear within my Visa bill? MICROSOFT *XBOX LIVE !! Unbelievable! So I again find the number, call their support understandably upset and after another lengthy attempted sales pitch (seriously, no one cares what new offers you are running) I was told that there must have been a minor error and my account will be closed and I would be given a refund. Well the refund didn't come, but I didn't pay much attention as I had other things going on and was happy enough to be done with it. Yet another year passed and, again, MICROSOFT *XBOX LIVE. I immediately find a phone, call their support and blow up on the first person to answer screaming that I have now been charged for 2 years worth of a service I haven't used in almost 3 years. After the idiotically mandated sales pitch (seriously? I just spent 20 minutes insulting everything about your immoral or incompetent company and you think there's even a slight chance of me wanting you to bill me for more crap I will never use?) I am told again that I would get a refund in the coming weeks and my account was closed. So it's now a year later. I was fairly surprised to find a bill from Visa in my mailbox. I open it up and see the lone charge, MICROSOFT *XBOX LIVE. Now the reason I'm surprised wasn't even entirely that those jackasses continually screw me over. It's more the fact that my Visa card expired 6 months ago, I never renewed it, and was being charged an additional fee for using a non-activated card. At this point I'm just wondering what it takes to actually cancel my account. Apparently the commitment for an intellectual property account with no actual value is greater than that of most houses now a days.HilbillyRokstar

You are a liar, Microsoft only renews your card each month after one year you get an $8 charge. Nice try flamer.

Good luck keeping your account active for a while, because you can't insult other useers on this site.

BTW, he said he signed up for the YEARLY subscription, not the monthly. I love how quick people are to judge others. Think next time, pal.

You can remove your credit card from the Website Account access on xbox.com. However you have to call in tell them to turn off Auto Renewal first. I made this same mistake because they had an offer of 12 Months for $39 with 400 MS points. Like a dope I put in my card info and then found no easy way to remove it. Next year I will use a pre-paid card like I have the previous 2 years. Oh well. Anyway, I have't figured out how to remove my auto-renew setting without calling them. This really should be illegal as they never once mentioned that this would auto-renew and bill my card every year. If I would have known that from the start I would not have done it. No too many headaches in the past. Oh well, you can always go to your bank, get them to deactivate the card, issue a new one with a new number. MS won't be able to charge to the old one, it will come back declined...

it is horrible to hear that. one reason why i buy timecards for live. this reminds me i want to remove my credit card entirely off of my gamertag. i would call up ur credit card company also just in case tell them to cancel ur payments for past 3 years on xbox live. it is horrible to hear someone did not do their job. i think companies need to make sure they hire people that can understand and speak english. i had a hard time of getting my hard drive fixed.

i also think u should uninstall windows and put in mac opterating system :P

Not true. No way your new card could be billed if your old one expired. They would need the new number. I've had my card replaced a few times because of non-MS related fraud charges and I've had to go in each time and manually renew my Live subscription.

The thing I don't like is how you have to cancel by calling them. It would be so much simpler to do it online without their customer support bs. Maybe that's an option now, but for the original xbox and xbox live, you could only call.

I would say that yes it should have been cancelled and refunded the first time around, but its also your own fault for not making sure the refund came, and waiting another year for a charge to appear. If the refund hasnt shown up in 1-2 weeks, you should have been calling them back right away.

Things must have changed since Live for the Original Xbox. I mistakenly let an account I wasn't using renew. I called up MS just to see what I could do even though I didn't think they would give me a refund, and they did without hassle or fuss. I was rather shocked.
