Do I want it to be free? Yes

To be truely honest would think xbox live should be free because the other gaming consoles allow free online gameplay look at the wii, u can play mario kart/super smash bros. brawl for free online. And look at the ps3 you can play the upcoming killzone 2 in 2009 with resistance 2 online free. So basically saying every other gaming console online is free ( if you have online connection that is) even the pc (excluding a few MMORPG's) I mean I already have to pay for the games and the console, and heck i even have to buy windows to set up my router and get a connection. So I truly don't understand xbox live but it truly should be free. If you can, show this to the leaders of the gameing mircrosoft. But young what do i know.EliteCouncilor

PS3 online =/=live

yea exactly what every ones saying you pay for goood service!. Even though i prefer pc coz then providers pay for game servers anyway :D.

PSN gets all the same stuff we do at this point and if they are not upgrading XBL then I feel ripped off.

My thoughts EXACTLY... You can't expect a free service to work as well as one that your paying $50.00 a year for. That money is paying for new equipment, and their suprisingly helpfull staff. If XBL was to suddenly become free, we could ecpect a rise in game content price, as Microsoft DOES have ALL the say in it. Not only that, but I GUARANTEE that the service would start to lag like hell. Any other free network is laggy as hell.........

I think the fact that you have to pay for it makes MS feel more responsible for it. I mean it is definetly the best online service amongst the consoles.

If it were free then MS would have less of a reason to make constant improvements, and give us stuff when they totally screw up (such as Undertow this past winter). If the service were free then they would just say "Hey well its free. What do you expect, perfection?!"

ps3 is free, wii is free, pc was free but since they've been doin that 360 vs PC games BS.

Microsoft needs to just leave well enuff alone, make it free!

UGH!!! paying for 50.00 bucks is not a freaking big of a deal. it's only 50 bucks a year. it's really a damn bargian. Microsoft xbox live has been around for years now and i can't believe peopel are still crying over paying for it. I don't mind paying 50, i actually enjoying paying 50 bucks because i kno what the service is realiable and it brings me fun and joy~! therefore, paying 50 bucks isn't all that bad , it's chaper than my INternet cable service , i pay 95.00 every month.

Yes, it should be free. Or they should at least allow you to download gamerpics and TV shows for free with the purchase of a year of Live... or give you 10,000 points with a year subscription. Or maintain dedicated servers. Or, since they couldn't include a wireless network adapter like every single other system known to man (including the PSP and DS) they should give you two years free Live with the purchase of the extremely overpriced $100 network adapter.

Seriously, only a fanboy wouldn't say it should be free... and/or someone that has their mommy and daddy pay for it. What exactly are we paying for anyways? gamertags? Achievement tracking? Psh, I could care less about those.... I'd much rather play on dedicated servers and not be constantly getting killed by the host and whoever lives closest to them.

I can text people on my cell phone or instant message them on my PC, no need to pay an extra $50 a year for it. Video chat? Sony fanboys are the ultimate joke when talking about Live being free. First they pay more for a ps3, that has less games and less quality games. Then want to act like 360 owners should absolutely hate paying for an online gaming service that completely buries their shoddy free service. Look, if paying for Live keeps the service from being the quality of the "virtual free cheese" that Sony fanatics are so proud of, then I'll gladly dig 15 pennies out of my couch each day to pay for Live.
