On my xbox i have a gamer profile and so does my brother and i was wondering whether we would need to buy 2 gold memberships or whether we could use one for both profiles

You'd have to buy two gold memberships. A membership is only good for one account.

My brother and I had the same situation so we decided to have 1 xbox live account between us and that was fine. Most games that are on live don't even allow split screen online (except Halo 3, GRAW, GOW) and those games allow guests. I would pick one of the accounts or create one completely new one for Live that you and your brother can share.

wat i did was by 200 days of xbox live gold fae ebay it only costed 6 pound and it works!!

the only problem was dat it came in 100 48 hour trial cards
