I've had my 360 for a few months now, but I seemed to have missed all and any talk about the XNA development kit to make 360 games, I talked to a friend that I'm geting an apartment with over the summer and we're going to make a game together. . . any ways I wanted to know if any one here was working on their own game or had heard of any indie titles coming out that your excited about.

You need to have programming skills to make a game though. It is not just some kind of cut and paste game maker. I'm a programmer, but at a bank. Since XNA Express was announced, I've dreamed of learning C# and becoming a game developer. That would be so cool. I wish a company would pay to train me. :)

I can't wait until Microsoft starts picking up indie developers based on their XNA games. XNA is exactly what the industry needs, not mega-publishers like EA.

I have a mild background in C++ and Java, and I looked at some of the coding on a site and if you understand basic programming you can do a lot. its not a big jump to C#. Speaking of that site I'll try to find a link, the site owner wrote code, that any one is allowed to use, to create fluid game animations, so there is free code out there that you can use to help make your game. as well as basic tutorials on sites to teach you how to code for an XNA game

Well XNA consists of a low quality ripoff language, thats exactly what rhe industry doesnt need. If you wanna make games, learn OpenGL and C++ and make them.

teebeenz, that may be true but it is still a great way to get a basic understanding of game making and coding, say before you move on to C++ or OpenGL. The Chilean game developer that made assault heroes just got picked up by Vivendi (its one of the news articles on GS) and the lead developer became head of Serra Online South America, so it can get your foot in the door as far as a career in the industry if you're really interested and motivated to make games but don't know an outlet through which to get there.

No. I don't think you should have to pay to develop... or at least it should be a one-time fee for whatever services you're provided. DirectX SDK is free, as well as many other toolkits, I don't know why this one should be any different.

I say screw this... if I want to get back into programming games, I'll do it on PC. If you're good enough, they pay YOU. I think it's a good idea, I just think it's Effed up that they hit you up for cash.

Yes i agree paying is a little to harsh it should be less if anything you should also be able to play the games without paying 50 bucks a year. It should be like a free trial of the game and then pay for the full game like xbox arcade.

no no you don't pay to play the games you pay to make the games, i think if you make a game they will post it on XBL as a free download. Anyway I would be fine paying $100 once (its a yearly subscrption) for the software, but I'm not going to complain because its a great idea and opportunity to make games for console. I could work on a pc game, but I'd rather try to make a game for consoles based on personal preference and the allure of XBL arcade

C# is an enhanced C++ so I don't know what you're talking about, and the industry needs fresh blood, which is what XNA is going to bring.

I'm trying to keep this thread going as long as possible, its nice to hear from people who are interested in making a game and from people interested in playing those games.

EDIT: on youtube you say? interesting I'll have to check it out.

Once you finish a game it's not automatically put onto the Arcade. Microsoft has to confirm it and do a bounch of stuff. There was an article about it in EGM, and most of the games end up costing several thousand dollars.
