What do you think about gamerscores and whats yours

I don't aim to get every achievement in every game I play. I will go back and get a few if I'm bored though. It's pretty much the only reason I still play GTA IV anymore.
I don't obsess over my gamerscore (clearly, it's only just above 2000), but it's fun to unlock achievements. I don't plan on renting Avatar for an easy 1000 though.
I love it!
Currently mine is sitting exactly at 10 000. :D

Ooh. That's a nice number.
You gonna get another achievement or let it sit at that perfect number forever, avoiding all new achievements at all cost?
I think achievements are a great way to increase the replay value of a game. I don't think it's a good reason to buy an unwanted game, but I think it's always cool to finally unlock that really challenging achievement you've been trying to get.
I wish they wouldn't give you points though. I think it would be better to just have the number of achievements displayed on your gamecard. The user could also chose 4 achievements to be displayed on their gamercard instead of having the 4 most recently unlocked.

Achievements are something that should be measured by the achievement itself, not by the total number of achievements.

Isn't there going to be an achievement display in the update?
I could be wrong though.

i love achievements, it gives me reason to keep playing a game. my gamescore is 17,778. (i know that because i am playing Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway right now on 360 :D)
I don't really make extra effort to get Achievements but I have a Gamerscore of nearly 8500. But my brother's challenged me to get every Achievement on COD 4 which I plan to do.Floppy_Jim
good luck with that... I gave up at the skydive to saftey on veteren difficulty achievment. Its so insanely hard and I want to smash the screen when I see you tube videos of kids doing it without fireing a shot.
For me the points aren't worth it. I won't replay a bad game just to get achievements and if its a good game I was gonna replay it and setup crazy rules for myself anyways.
Really I wish they'd just do alot of stat tracking in games and make that publically available. Like show what weapons you're using, how many enemies you killed in this playthrough and overall, time you completed the level, etc etc. If you could have leaderboards for stuff like that, i'd be into it.
Thats how achievements should be. Some games just hand out points cuz you beat the level or because you played through the tutorial or you beat the game. That stuff kinda cheapens it for me. Achievements should be stuff that you have to consciously work at in order to get or you have to like master the game in order to pull it off without trying to.
Like beating Mass Effect without ever using special powers and setting your partners to never use their super powers. Thats not an achievement but its the type of thing that i'll make up for myself to do on a replay. Stuff thats so crazy hard that only people who are really into the game will try to pull off. I value pulling off something like that way more than getting 100 points because I beat a level that you're supposed to beat in order to finish the game.
Mine should be in my sig after this post... Never tried this before.
I like achievement points, it is one thing that separates the Xbox 360 from the other consoles this generation.
Edit: Well that didn't work out so well did it...
when my brother ahd his 360 my gamerscore was around 8,900 points i believe..those were all unfinished games with bioshock as my highest one...but the system was stolen so i'll be buying my own 360 and working on my score again..luckily i have a very understanding girlfriend so i'll be able to get even higher then my old score...
score!
Yeah i'll make an effort for some achievements, its something to do with a game everynow and then
I'm almost 7000 (In sig)
I used to think gamerscores were pretty pointless, I still actualyl do, but for some reason I can't really figure out, I still go out of my way to get the achievements. Something about seeing that little green and black box pop up with the achievement name and points is just somehow fulfulling in a loser-ish kind of way.iareconfuse
Pretty much exactly what I was going to say.
I don't admire people who have 35k + gamescore.... I sort of just pity them.
i like gamerscore points just becasue its competive and its something dat ps3 doesnt have. even tho my gamerscore barley almost 3000 i change gamertags too often
