So I was playing COD World at War the other day, where someone had amassed a staggering 60,000 gamerscore points (certainly the most I've ever seen). This then made me ask to the question, do I think he/she is awsome at games, or just has a lot of money and time on his/her hands? So I ask you this, if you meet someone with a truely staggeringly high gamerscore, what are you're impressions of the player at the other end? Although some achievements are skill based, such as completing various challenges on the hardest difficulty, many of the others (especially in Fable 2) you seem to get for doing almost nothing.

Gamerscore is in no way an indicator of that individual gamers skills. However, achievements come naturally throughout the course of a game even if you are not an achievement junkie. Therefore, gamerscore can reflect, in some cases, if said gamer is a casual or hardcore gamer. For some, gaming is a passion and a high gamerscore may echo that.

All in all, achievements and Gamerscore are just numbers. How much of each a gamer has can give you a general idea of what kind of gamer they are, but not entirely. For instance, The Orange Box has 99 achievements, and all of those can give you a total of 1000 Gamerscore. However, Avatar only has 5 achievements, but can give you the same amount of Gamerscore. In my opinion, whether someone is a "legit" or "hardcore" gamer with a high Gamerscore/number of achievements is really determined by things like what kind of games they play, how often they play them, why they play them, and of course, their total completion percentage of those games.

The guy is hardcore, not matter how you look at it. 60,000 doesn't come easy. Even if he has a group of mates and they spend all day boosting achievments in private game lobbies - its still a high gamer score.

While gamerscore per se doesn't mean a player is more skillful or better than another, if you start comparing someone with 50,000 GS with someone with only 5,000 GS you are going to make assumptions that the 50k player is a more dedicated gamer and more likely to be good at many games. While there are some stupidly easy games to earn GS on like Avatar, and it is easy to boost to 10k, or 20k playing simple games, getting to 40k, 50k, 60k takes a lot more effort. You will quickly run out of simple games and have to play challenging games to earn more GS. Personally I like to look at % completion instead, and aim for 750/1000 GS in each game I play. It is much easier to get a high gamerscore from playing a little bit of loads of games and picking up the easy achievements at the start, but going for every achievement in every game takes a lot more time and skill. So I would view someone with 30k GS from 40 games as a better player than someone with 30k from 100 games

I like achievements. I think they give the game a better accomplishment value. It is also a good indicator of when you are actually done with a game. For instance, I have like a 22,000+ gamerscore, but not because I go after it, but because I've played about 250 games since launch. And no I don't own these, I just have gamefly.

I have around 36,000 and I own my games but I put in 60-70 hrs a week at work. I do go after certain achievements ones that I think would be fun to get. Once it starts to get overly frustrating I walk away, but I love achievements like Man vs Tank in left4dead or fighting the giant optional bosses in lost planet. But the past two Call of duty games I've gotten stuck on the last level on veteran and as soon as it stopped being fun I dropped the difficulty down.

I could have 1000/1000 in fable but I don't want my hero to be goth

I'm kind of "eh" on the Achievements and Gamerscore. They're okay and all, it adds a little competition to it and lets gamers flash their plumage in the gaming community, I guess, but they're not that big a deal to me. I base my game selection purely on what I like and think I am good at. If it boosts my Gamerscore, etc, great! If not, Imma not gonna cry.

much

It depends on the games in their list. I mean, if they are all easy games I don't think much of it because they probably just rented them to get easy points.

I love it. I have to admit I have my share of easy achievements. But I also have my share of time consuming hair pulling teeth grinding achievements. I currently have 53k+. My goal is to reach about 75% of achievements for every game I put into my 360. Currently at 59%

if they have a high gamerscore, it doesn't affect me....i don't care how much time or money they have, as long as they have fun getting the achievements...and some achievements don't necessarily take a long time, so saying they have a lot of time on their hands isn't exactly an appropriate thing to say...what if they had the system at launch as well?...they could of just played a lot of games...what's the big deal?...and perhaps they work all day and their only time to play games is at night...how is right to say they have too much time on their hands?...and personally, i love achievements...i feel as though i get more out of my games...before, i only used to go through a game once...now, i find myself going through games more than once

Speaking percentages, where can you find your achievements vs total possible after the update? It was easy before.

i enjoy achievements because it shows that i really enjoy a game if i can get 1000/1000. for example one of my all time fav games is Deadrising. To me that game is hard to get all the achievements so when i finally get 1000/1000 i will feel very good about my time with the game.

achievements dont exactly mean your amazing at games. well some do some dont. like i think on graw there is one where you have to top the leaderboards and on guitar hero 3 you have to five star all songs on expert. people who can get these are obviously really really good. but then there is a lot of easy achievements like on avatar for example and that obviously does not mean your are great at games.

That is the most incomprehensible post I've ever read. Really. It was. As for the topic on hand, I love Achievements. They add incentive to go back and play games. They definitely don't hurt games (unless it's Lone Wolves on Halo 3)

a gamerscore means nothing, all it indicates is that the person has played the game a bunch of times and unlocked all the achievements or actively pursued the achievements. It doesn't prove anything about the players skills or their "hardcore" status, I don't actively go after achievements I get the ones that come naturally from playing and if I play the game over and over enough to get some of the more outrageous ones, fine. But I don't make an effort for these things because their useless and prove nothing.

When you see a really high gamerscore, its means 2 things. 1. They are good at most games 2. They have a lot of games.

As an acheivement whore, I love to throw out there, all you need is GAMEFLY!! Ofcourse it takes time, but I have had my xbox since launch so that pretty much gave me 2 years lol, and if I really wanted to I could be 80-100 k easily....... And to 130,000 is pretty much a fake or cheater, and normal is probably 20-30k putting me at the hardcore acheivement whore hahahahahaha

60k achievements sounds like someone who is a hacker or glitcher of achievements, look at their gamertag and count how many games they played just to see if they amazing. got loads of games or glitched it all, also look for dupes from foregin releases such as *** versions of games at 1000 points and uk or usa versions at 1000 points tooo

272,000+ is the highest it seems.

Gamerscores don't bother me. Achievements actually have extended the time I have played games that I beat. They give me an incentive to go back and play a game I would have not played again. I don't try to get these achievements for my gamerscore but it's a goal of some sort for me.

The only reason I use cheap games is because I can get them free. I would never waste money on gamerscore. But usually I find that they are unemployed, and live with a relative, so I don't think that highly of them. They could be a cool person though.

Fight Night is the only game I have where it was extremely easy to get 1000/1000. I didn't even want the easy achievements, I wanted a good boxing game. The game was good and not all people got it for the points.

I personally think Achievments take away the enjoyment in the game the first playthrough.. I play the game naturally without stressing out about getting this and that achievment the first time around, and whatever I get I get.. Then I might brush up on what I missed the second time around... I find this system also adds replay ability as well...

This is getting pretty interesting, gamerscore definately makes subsequent play throughs more interesting, however, as some people see them as pointless should points mean prizes? Perhaps being able to download free themes and gamer pictures?

I have a friend on XBL who will actually stay away from a game if the achievements are too easy, or if he doesn't like the way the achievement pictures look. If he does play a game, he plays through to get 1000 GS. I have never understood why some people go that crazy over a meaningless number. I try for achievements, and like the system because it makes me play more of the game that otherwise, would probably go un-played. But to not play a game because you don't like the Gamerscore Picture, or because the points are too easy, give me a break. Play the game for the game, not the Gamerscore.

the thing about sports games is completely wrong. there are some of us who really like sports and play sports games not for achievements but because they are good. i wonder what achievements i was going for when i was playing fifa 2000 on ps1? and as for kids games - what about kids? if an 8 year old completes a load of movie tie-ins does it mean he is an achievement whore or just a little kid who likes playing games?
