I, personally, think Gamerscore and Achievements are one of the stupidest things on the 360. I don't see any point as to WHY they have them. It's pointless. And, as other posters have mentioned, you become more fixated with the achievements than actually enjoying the game. It's basically because...Gamerscore and Achievements don't do anything, and don't prove anything.
The only thing it proves is how much you play your 360, or how many different sort of games you play. I can see that achievements could offer some competition amongst friends...but even then.

The only game that, in my opinion, properly utilizes Achievements is Mass Effect. Why? When you unlock one it adds something to the game. For example, once you reach one million dollars, you unlock the option to buy some of the best equipmen in the game. Achievements should be utilized like that...rather than just give gamerscore.

Or? Gamerscore should give you something. Everyt 10,000 GS you get 100 MS, or something like that. Because at the moment, Gamerscore, and most games with Achievements...do nothing.

if think it would be good if the changed it soo u acctually got something from the gamerscore seeing as they are called "achievements" shouldn't you be rewarded if u achieve something good?

On top of the matter, achievements should be something extraordinary, rather than some of the things that are currently out there. You shouldn't get an achievement for beating a level, you should get an achievement for doing something in a certain criteria (like, beating it under a time limit, or without getting below 50% health) as well as beating the level.

An example of the stupidity of gamerscore is one of the achievements in Soul Calibur IV....you get 5G for WATCHING THE OPENING CINEMATIC. What is that? I know it's only five, but still...

An example of a ~good~ achievement is one from Half Life 2: Episode 2; in a nutshell, you have to beat a certain part of the stage without any of the main objectives being destroyed (You can beat the part with a bare minimum of one objectives remaining).

Achievements should be challenging, and putting the gamer to the test. Rather than being able to blow through a game in a day and get 1000G.

I like gamerscores. I have around 32,000 points, but I don't go out of my way to get them. I enjoy the games first, points second. Though the only expection is Kung Fu Panda, though just look at my gamertag and you'll know why I played that game to death lol.

i think that some achievements are way to easy to get and this just spoils the gamerscore aspect

-Your really skilled at games

-You have a lot of free time

-You boost online

-You have a lot of money to spend

It's a fun way to play games, but some people take it to far in my opinion. Playing games they would other wise avoid just to grab easy points to boost their scores.

[QUOTE="kingrich06"]I love it. I have to admit I have my share of easy achievements. But I also have my share of time consuming hair pulling teeth grinding achievements. I currently have 53k+. My goal is to reach about 75% of achievements for every game I put into my 360. Currently at 59%MumblesMcBabble
Speaking percentages, where can you find your achievements vs total possible after the update? It was easy before.

I use mygamercard.net; it shows % complete

There should be an achievement for RRoD.

1st: I'm afraid I can't do that, dave.

2nd: Fool me twice...

3rd: Triple Down Winner

4th: God hates you.

This probably deserves it's own thread.
