I'm going to see the movie tonight but just from seeing the trailer it seems to have alot of similarities, I'm wondering if some movie directors/producers are making more of a shift with the gamer audience.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the trailer. Also, the similarities between Children of Men and HL2 are striking.

well dead rising was based off dawn of the dead by romero, so its more likely that the movie is based on that movie, rather than dead rising

True, but Dead Rising has a very comical tone to it. Also Shaun of the Dead is an homage to Romero's movies, but takes a comical approach as well. I'd definitely say that ZombieLand gathers influences from this new broadening genre of comedy-horror zombie media.

Zombie Land reminds me of Dead Rising, if only for the humor. In Dead Rising, it's so silly, but awesome. The same with Zombie Land, where people got bored with just killing them conventionally, and started getting creative.

After seeing the movie I can see alot more similarities, ie. hedge sheers, crazed clown zombie, fat crazed supermarket zombies. The humor was there too. Now I cant wait to get my hands on dead rising 2 =)

They're similar, they both have a very good sense of humour I would think.

Actually, Dead Rising remindes me more of Romero's Dawn of the Dead. I have seen Zombieland today and, yeah, all zombie movies are somehow alike. I think they deliberately use some elements of zombie games in movies to catch the interest of the gamers community.
