Briefly entertaining. Lack of variey lets it down bigtime.Does have its goodpoints.
I am a fan of the Vietnam era and have all Vietnam themed PC games.
First of all this game can be bought at a really cheap price. I don't recommend paying anything above the price of a sandwhich and coffee for it.
This game is not entirely a stealth game but only in parts of certain levels. In some parts of each level there will always be a fire fight which helps break up the monotony of each level.
Something I found very interesting and helpful in places was the ability to switch from 1st person viewpoint to 3rd person. Also to change primary character to Pvt Chris Egan / Barden /Rhett etc. This is the first game I have that I had the ability to do this and it does really add to the game.
Visuals/Graphics: Nothing extraordinary here. It does a good job of explosions in places and rainfall and waterfalls are done nicely. The scenery in each level will start to look repetitive after a while.
Gameplay: The usual first person stuff but you have the ability to go to 3rd person. It lacks perhaps the fluidity of motion in Call of Duty or Medal of Honor.
Levels: This is where the game is very disappointing. Practically each level is identical in format and environment. This leads to some annoyance as perhaps a Temple/City level would have been a good asset. The same routine is applied to each mission. Complete a set of objectives, don't get either yourself or team-mate killed, and make it to the exit zone.
Weapons: The best part of playing this game is the use of Starscope or nightvision on the sniper rifle.
Not quite a Splinter cell nightvision mode but still very satisfying when an enemy VC /NVA is taken down.
The usual arrays of 1960's 70's weapons are available M16's, AK 47's, claymores grenades etc.
What can be frustrating is that undoubtedly you will be killed by an unseen enemy and it can take ages to figure out where the enemy is. In some places figuring out which direction to go can be difficult. Make good use of your compass as a lot of the environment looks the same.
I didn't play any multiplayer on this game so I won't comment on that aspect other than it does have a multiplayer.
Once the singleplayer was complete I uninstalled the game, as there really wasn't any other reason to play it again that I could see.
Overall: A decent budget priced shooter set in Vietnam. Nothing groundbreaking /extraordinary.
It doesn't compare to Vietcong, Men of Valor and if you would like a shooter set in Vietnam I would recommend getting these titles first.
It will keep you entertained for at least a week as I completed it in that time.
The gamespot review really did some it up but despite all its shortcomings for the time I played it I really liked it.
