2012 Review of NBA 2K11 ft. Michael Jordan - NBA2K11 is better than NBA2K12

User Rating: 9 | NBA 2K11 X360
NBA 2K11 was my first game in the NBA2K series since 2K9, which means I did skip over a year, which makes this game seem much more revolutionary to me.

First off, the gameplay.

Compared to 2K9, and all other NBA games I have played, this one just takes the cake in terms of smoothness and realism on the court. The shooting motions are updated and really resemble each player, speed actually counts in this game (as opposed to 2K12), and it just feels like an overall smooth playing game.

The commentary in this game is also much improved, and really makes you feel like that you are watching a real game. Commentary is very rarely repeated in the same game, which keeps the realism feel going.

Next, the game modes.

The main thing I am going to discuss is the MyPlayer mode, which was introduced in NBA2K10, although I never played it on that game. Overall, the MyPlayer mode is extremely fun. The interviews and customization is limitless, and you even can experience the game from the bench during the times you are not in. MyPlayer is overall a very fun game mode, and will likely be the centerpiece of NBA2K games for a long time.

As any game, MyPlayer does come with a few flaws, such as easily being already a top player in the league coming out of the Combine, along with the Combine's overall length are two main problems. A third is the amount of insane trades that you have no control over which can really mess a roster that you like playing with up.

All in all though, the MyPlayer mode is great fun, and should consume many hours of time for serious 2K gamers.

Other modes, such as the Playoffs, Association, and Practice come back in a very similar way as previous installments. They all bring solid NBA gameplay and are worth a look if you purchase the game.

One flaw I did notice was the stripping down of the NBA Blacktop. The Slam Dunk Contest and Three Point shootout were both removed, which really drops the Blacktop on the list of gamemodes that I play.

Finally, online play.

I did not log too much time online for 2K11, probably three to five games.

However, in that short time, I noticed that the game is virtually lag-less online, and the overall community is full of a bunch of... happier people I suppose.

Beware when venturing online though, as 95% of players you face will likely choose the Miami Heat or the Los Angeles Lakers.

Since 2K11 is a bit outdated nowadays, it may be harder, but still possible to find a game online.

Overall
_______________

NBA2K11 is the best game in the NBA2K franchise thus far, which includes NBA2K12.

If you see this game brand new for a decent price, please pick it up, especially if NBA2K12 was your first NBA2K game, and you hadn't fully enjoyed it.
