This is a "Love it or Hate it" sort of game. Very unique, but has some flaws.
There are many elements here that point towards the game being the first of a series, but there are also a number of flaws that (although not really that big) are "game killers" to some. I will address these flaws later in my review.
It is surprisingly unique, despite having a name that seems to imply a somewhat generic quality.
As far as story goes, the ending is unexpected and sort of makes a bit more sense out of the game, but other than that, there's little to talk about.
Graphics are alright, there is a sort of jagged effect that is common with games built useing PS2 engines. The atmosphere is quite charming in my opinion, and the work they did with Vanessa (your character) is amazing.
She has a (semi) realistic figure, and (IMO), the greatest butt in video game history.
The soundtrack fits the game beautifully.
The game is set to a number of techno beats, most of which are looped quite a few times, though, I didn't mind, they are such great tracks, I wish I could get them on my iPod.
Overall, the game has nice flow to it, and the atmosphere, music, and basic theme of the game all come together so nicely, and who doesn't like killing wave after wave of insane robots?
The game has many high points, and is very fun, IF you can look past some of the flaws.
-The first of which is a feature that was actually meant to set the combat in a way so that you blast robots to the beat of the music. That is, you can move and shoot at the same time. This is actually the number one thing about the game that people don't like.
-The second is that (unless you have a good sense of direction) it is VERY easy to get lost. You have no mini-map, many of the rooms look a lot alike, and for every last on of the side missions, all the rooms are thrown together at random.
-The third is that (aside from Vanessa's outfits) you won't see many pretty colors in the game. Most of the levels are made up of various shades of black, white, and gray. This is fine for me, but just thought it's worth mentioning.
The forth is that the controls are a bit "funky", though that is mostly because the game is so different from any other. If your good at adapting, this isn't a problem.
-The last is that without the side missions, P.N.03 is a very sort game.
If you can look past these (small) flaws, P.N.03 is a great game.
Worth checking out if you like techno, sci-fi, or even just want a good 3rd person shooter. It is something that you should easily find in the bargain gin at any game store near you.
Seeing as it normally goes for $2.99, it's something that you may want to keep an eye out for.
