Awesome!
by *PeggFenway on Comments
Last week I was accepted to Gibbs College (Katherine Gibbs in case anyone is confused). I am going for Executive Administration (or Assistant). Yesterday I met with someone in financial aid, and after 1 hour, I left knowing that I had a free ride my first year there. Most of the financial aid is in the form of loans, but that is okay. When I can I plan to make a couple payments during the school year so I am not paying as much when I finish. One of the loans I received was called the Signature Loan, a credit check is performed to determine whether or not a student will get it. I was told at the end of the meeting that I am the first student in several years to receive the Signature Loan, no one else had received it for a long time in that school.
So when October comes, all I will have to worry about are my work schedule and getting to classes and getting my school work done. This is the first time, that I can remember of, that I am actually excited to be going to school.
Boston Fireworks (Hooray for the 4th of July!!!)
by *PeggFenway on Comments
Last night I watched the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular. For anyone not from New England who hasn’t heard of them, they are the Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra. They had Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith giving special performances, and Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw hosted. There were the usual orchestral performances that were (as always) absolutely wonderful. Steven Tyler sag “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and another song. Then he and Joe Perry sang “Walk This Way”. I know that I should be able to name most of the songs the Orchestra played, but unfortunately I do not. They are songs that are played often with celebrations such as this, and, I believe, they have been used in movies as well. It was just music for the first half hour, then the fireworks display started. The fireworks lasted for 20-25 minutes without any commercials. There was a medley of songs along with the orchestral numbers to go along with the fireworks. They played old hits such as “Summertime” (from the 50s and 60s), “Summer in the City” by the Lovin’ Spoonful, “Soak Up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow, “Hot Fun in the Summertime” (another from the 50s and 60s), “Dirty Water”, “You’re Beautiful”, and “Coming to America”. The music was great, but the fireworks were just fabulous! They were big, bright, and absolutely amazing. It made me wish I had been there in person to see them. They were being set off from some boats on the Charles River, and it was the most beautifully amazing sight you could ever see. Maybe next year, I will go.

Responsibility of School Bus Drivers
by *PeggFenway on Comments
On the 11 O'Clock news tonight (5/22) there was a report of an 8 year old girl being run over by a school bus. My brother told me that what was reported was that apparently a high school freshman got on the bus, and started to fool around with the controls. He ended up taking off the parking brake, and the bus ran over the little girl. She ended up dying later on at the hospital. That poor girl's family, I cannot even imagine what they must be going through.
My question is though, "WHERE WAS THE BUS DRIVER?! WHY WASN"T HE/SHE EITHER BEHIND THE WHEEL OR AT LEAST ON THE BUS TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS UNDER CONTROL?!" I truly hope that the driver is charged and prosecuted for the death of that little girl. The bus is obviously the driver's responsibility, and if that person had been doing their job the poor girl would still be alive.
Now that's not to say that the kid who was playing with the controls should get off scott free. He needs to take some responsibility as well. He should have known better than to fool around. When you ride a bus, you get on and plant your rear end in a seat until you reach your stop.
Mice
by *PeggFenway on Comments
I like furry little rodents, mice included. Just not in my house in my dresser drawers or when I am on the computer. I just had tis really cute little mouse appear under the screen to my brother's computer while browsing this site. It was such a cutie pie. It is just too bad that since we do not keep mice as pets in my house, the little fella does not belong here.:P
