Bucks win again on Saturday night vs. the Grizzlies

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 4 (Ticker) -- Jamaal Magloire and rookie Andrew Bogut set the tone early and delivered the blow late. Magloire scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and Bogut added 12 and 10 as the Milwaukee Bucks posted an 88-78 triumph over the Memphis Grizzlies, who continue to struggle late in games. Video highlights from Grizzlies-Bucks: Play Michael Redd scored 23 points on 7-of-18 shooting to pace the Bucks, who outscored the Grizzlies, 22-14, in the fourth quarter and clearly outplayed the visitors when the game was on the line. "It was a quality win against a good team," said Bucks coach Terry Stotts, whose squad has held eight of its last 10 opponents under 100 points. "I'm really proud of how we've picked it up defensively over the last 10 games. ... I thought the contributions from everybody were really good. Our starters defensively set the tone early and they stood up late." Bobby Simmons made a pair of free throws with 8:47 remaining to put Milwaukee ahead, 70-64, before Memphis responded with a 9-2 run over the next 2:41. Bobby Jackson had a 3-pointer and a finger roll in the surge, while Brian Cardinal added a jumper and made a nice feed to Pau Gasol for a dunk and a 73-72 edge with 6:06 to play. But the Bucks responded behind Magloire and Bogut, who combined to score the first 14 points of the game for Milwaukee and, more importantly, took over down the stretch. "Our big men played great," Redd said. "Andrew and Cat (Magloire) really set the tone for us tonight." Magloire answered the Grizzlies' run with a layup and a pair of free throws to give the Bucks a 76-73 lead. After the teams exchanged empty trips, Bogut penetrated the lane and found Magloire, who was fouled but converted the free throws to create a five-point game. "I was able to hit some free throws down the stretch and our inside play was good," said Magloire, who chose to give the credit to his frontcourt mate. "Andrew was the difference tonight. We really were determined to win tonight." Magloire shot 6-of-12 from the field, while Bogut connected on 5-of-9 shots, adding five of the Bucks' seven blocked shots. "They are big and physical," said Grizzlies forward Shane Battier, who finished with just four points. "Andrew Bogut has a lot of talent and Jamaal Magloire has been an All-Star. You aren't going to get too many layups against them." T.J. Ford flashed his speed to give Milwaukee an 81-73 lead, stealing the ball from Eddie Jones and outracing a trio of Grizzlies before converting a three-point play with 2:02 to play. "We had the ball, put it on the floor and they took it from us," Grizzlies coach Mike Fratello said of the play. "If you don't get a shot at the basket, how are you going to score?" Bogut, Ford and Redd each made a pair of free throws in the final minute to seal the win for Milwaukee, which had dropped four of six. "We've had some tough losses the past couple games," said Bucks forward Joe Smith, who had been out since Dec. 5 following knee surgery. "This was a game we definitely wanted to come out and take care of our home games. Take advantage of some mismatches we had and just play basketball the right way." Gasol scored 19 points on 5-of-14 shooting but managed just two in the fourth quarter. Cardinal added a season-high 12 points off the bench for Memphis, which made 22-of-25 free throws but committed 15 turnovers and was outrebounded, 49-40, in losing for the ninth time in 12 games. "We turned the ball over down the stretch and they came down and took the lead there," Gasol said. "It was a little bit of everything, execution was definitely a factor. We need to execute in the fourth quarter."

Movie Review - Go (1999)

Plot Outline: Go! tells the story of the events after a drug deal, told from three different points of view. Trivia: In the scene where Zack is trying to convince Adam to help carry Ronna's body, he tells him that it's just a scene and to, "Say hi to Molly in wardrobe". This is a reference to Molly Grundman who was key set costumer in the film Continuity: When Ronna is sitting in Todd's apartment buying drugs, his Santa hat changes from side to side without him moving. You know what makes it even better? If you take like a lot of pot with it. I mean like, like a lot of pot. I borrowed "Go" from a friend of mine along with other films last night. Truly I had no clue what this movie was about and I've never heard of it but my buddy said it was a good movie so I wanted to see it. After seeing it, I really liked it. I was surprised how good it was because I thought this movie was going to be a dump but oh it wasn't. The movie takes on three stories (Ronna, Simon, and Adam and Zack) after a drug dealing act. Personally, my favorite story in the movie was the Simon story. How the film acts is like a mix between "Reservoir Dogs," or "Pulp Fiction." The cast is really good, the direction by Doug Liman was great, the dialouge was superb, and the intertwining of the characters was marvelous. Although the movie gets a little bizarre and sidetracked, I would advise you to pay full attention to it. Overall, "Go" is a smart and funny film that I recommend to you. So GO see it.

Movie Review - Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005)

Plot Outline: A bored married couple is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other. Plot Synopsis: A married couple (Pitt and Jolie) are getting bored with their quiet domestic life. What they don't know, however, is that they're both assassins, secretly hopping the world and killing for hire. But their separate lives are about to collide when each finds out their next target is their own spouse. Released amidst rumors of romance between costars Angelina Jolie and soon-to-be-divorced Brad Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith offers automatic weapons and high explosives as the cure for marital boredom. The premise of this exhausting action-comedy (no relation to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock comedy starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery) is that the unhappily married Smiths (Pitt and Jolie) will improve their relationship once they discover their mutually-hidden identities as world-class assassins, but things get complicated when their secret-agency bosses order them to rub each other out. There's plenty of amusing banter in the otherwise disposable screenplay by Simon Kinberg (xXx: State of the Union, Fantastic Four), and director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) gives Pitt and Jolie a slick, glossy superstar showcase that's innocuous but certainly never boring. It could've been better, but as an action-packed summer confection, Mr. and Mrs. Smith kills two hours in high style. Do you want to watch a movie that makes you think?. Go watch another movie, it is as simple as that. But if you simply want to have some fun, give "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" a try. The film starts with a bored couple that goes to a marriage counselor in order to do something to save their marriage. They seem a couple like many others, so immersed in their routine that they hardly pay attention to each other. John Smith (Brad Pitt) is an architect, Jane Smith (Angelina Jolie) works with computers. They have dinner at seven o'clock everyday, and don't talk too much. But... not all is at it seems in their apparently ordinary lives. As a matter of fact, both are assassins working for rival companies. Neither Jane nor John knows about the extracurricular activities of their other half, despite the fact that they have been married for six years. But soon enough they will find out, as both are assigned the same target, "The tank" (an adorable Adam Brody). Will things get worse before they get better?. Can we expect to enter into a combat zone when the Smiths start to solve their domestic issues?. And will we enjoy it?. See the movie, and find out!. What more can I say about "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", so you have more elements to decide whether you will watch it?. Let's see... To start with, this movie has lots of action (guns, knives and bombs included), so if you don't like action movies I don't advice you to choose it. Also, there is sharp dialogue that is surprisingly funny sometimes, mostly when the Smiths are bickering (thank you, Simon Kinberg, for the screenplay). What is more, you can always enjoy Brad and Angelina's on-screen chemistry, that is really outstandingly good. On the other hand, I felt that the ending was somehow contrived, and that some kind of closure was missing. That is the reason why I will probably watch this film again when it is released in dvd, in the hope that the director (Doug Liman) decides to give us an alternate ending that makes more sense. All in all, I really liked this movie. It is far from perfect, but quite enjoyable nonetheless, so I will give it 3.5 stars out of 5. For me, watching "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" was fun. You will probably enjoy it too, if you know what you are getting into when you get your ticket. That is, no profound thoughts, but good entertainment all the same. That was more than enough for me, in this case :)

Bucks look to sweep the hornets for this year tonight.

Milwaukee (23-20) at New Orleans (21-22) 8:00 pm EST OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- Michael Redd looks to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to their first season sweep of the New Orleans Hornets on Monday. The Bucks never have taken every matchup in a campaign with the Hornets, although last season was the first that the former Central Division rivals met just twice. After splitting two contests in 2004-05, the Bucks posted a 101-94 victory over the Hornets in Milwaukee on December 23. Redd scored 36 points on 12-of-24 shooting in that game for the Bucks, who have not defeated the Hornets in consecutive meetings since winning the final matchup of the 1996-97 and the first encounter of the following campaign. Milwaukee's leading scorer, Redd made just one of his first nine shots before scoring 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter in Sunday's 83-79 triumph over the Boston Celtics. T.J. Ford had 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Bucks, who have won two straight games and four of their last six. They have not had a three-game winning streak since a three-game run from December 7-12. The Hornets are returning home after Saturday's 95-86 triumph over the Memphis Grizzlies. Playing just one day after forward Chris Andersen was banned from the league for violating the drug policy, the Hornets had six players score in double figures to halt a two-game losing streak. Speedy Claxton led the charge with 20 points and David West collected 19 and 12 rebounds. Former Buck Desmond Mason will be trying to bounce back from a sluggish 3-of-13 shooting performance. Mason was dealt to the Hornets just before the start of the season for center Jamaal Magloire.

Bucks over the Celtics yesterday staying above .500

MILWAUKEE, Jan. 29 (Ticker) -- Michael Redd heated up at the right time for the Milwaukee Bucks. Redd scored 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and T.J. Ford added 15 and eight assists as the Bucks posted an 83-79 victory over the Boston Celtics. NBA TV highlights from Celtics-Bucks: Play Milwaukee's leading scorer at 25.3 points per game, Redd picked up two quick fouls and managed just six points on 1-of-9 shooting through three periods. "He's a great player," Milwaukee coach Terry Stotts said. "We try and help him, but I have to give him credit. He had the confidence that when things aren't going his way to still knock down a shot." Luckily for the Bucks, Redd hardly was the only one struggling Sunday. The Celtics shot just 40 percent (23-of-57) in the first 36 minutes and Bobby Simmons' follow of Dan Gadzuric's airball with less than one second remaining gave the Bucks a 57-56 lead heading into the final session. "Neither team shot the ball particularly well," Stotts said. "But I'd rather credit that to the defense." Redd opened the fourth with a jumper and a 3-pointer for a 62-56 lead with 11:06 to go. Brian Scalabrine answered with a shot from the arc and Wally Szczerbiak hit a pair of free throws to cut the margin to one. The game remained close the rest of the way, with Redd nailing another jumper with 4:15 remaining to give Milwaukee a 74-70 edge. Paul Pierce halved Boston's deficit with a dunk, but Redd provided some breathing room with a layup and a 3-pointer to make it 79-72 with 1:30 to go. "You knew he would (bounce back)," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "They had run that play (on the 3-pointer) all game and we did a pretty good job, but that was the one play where we didn't step out and try to take it out of his hands." "We were doing a great job on him defensively, and then he hit two big shots," Szczerbiak said. "He has a quick trigger. You have to be ready for him at all times." After Szczerbiak scored four straight points, Redd made a pair from the line before Pierce's 3-pointer drew the Celtics within 81-79 with five seconds left. But Scalabrine and Raef LaFrentz were unable to foul Ford, who dribbled around the two big men before finding Charlie Bell for a fast-break dunk at the buzzer. Like Redd, Pierce got into early foul trouble and struggled from the field, scoring 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting. Playing his second game with Boston since Thursday's trade, Szczerbiak finished with 20 points and Al Jefferson had 12 and 12 rebounds for the Celtics. "I'm just learning the plays and having fun out there," said Szczerbiak, who scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting in his Boston debut Friday. "We came up just short and have lost a lot of close games. My teammates and coaches are making things really easy." Redd picked up two fouls in the first 2:27 of the game, while Pierce was called for his second with just under three minutes left in the first quarter. "I didn't complain, I just left," Redd said. "I knew it would come back to me. Tough game for me, but I bounced back." Neither team responded without their top offensive threat as Milwaukee took a 16-14 lead after 12 minutes. "I took (Redd) out of his rhythm, sitting the whole first quarter," Stotts said. "As much as both teams struggled offensively, he probably got a little frustrated going into the second quarter. So much of the game is about rhythm, and that probably took him out of it a little bit." It did not get much better in the second, when Bell scored five of his 12 points to help the Bucks build a 40-34 bulge.

The Bucks knock off the Raptors very easily last night.

MILWAUKEE, Jan. 27 (Ticker) -- Bobby Simmons scored 18 points to lead six players in double figures as the Milwaukee Bucks shot to season-best 58 percent from the field in a 108-87 triumph over the slumping Toronto Raptors. The Bucks made 45-of-77 as the lit up the defenseless Raptors, who lost for the fifth time in six games. Toronto has surrendered at least 104 points in four of those five losses, the most notable coming when Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant scored 81 points Sunday. NBA TV highlights from Raptors-Bucks: Play "That's how we want to play," Bucks coach Terry Stotts said. "You want to do that every night, but sometimes the matchups don't allow it. But it was great to see it tonight." Simmons' frontcourt mates, rookie Andrew Bogut and Jamaal Magloire, also had solid efforts. The 7-foot Bogut collected 14 points and 10 rebounds and the 6-11 Magloire added 13 and 11. "They have such size and we just can't match that," Toronto coach Sam Mitchell said. "If you double on the bigs, who do you leave open? Michael Redd? Mo Williams? You gotta hope they miss shots and the didn't miss many tonight." "It was great tonight," Redd said. "Toronto tried to take the ball out of my hands early tonight and we moved the ball and made them pay." Chris Bosh helped Toronto keep it close in the first quarter, scoring 13 points. However, Milwaukee made 13-of-19 shots in the opening session and took a 27-24 edge into the second period. Bosh scored just eight points the rest of the way, but the Bucks continued their excellent shooting as they hit 11-of-20 in the period to grab a 54-44 lead at the break. Redd scored five of his 15 points during an 11-0 burst to open the third quarter. Losers of five of their previous seven, the Bucks cruised the rest of the way. "We need to put teams away when we have the chance, and that was the mind-set coming out of the half," Redd said. "That was great basketball," Simmons said. "Guys were making plays for each other, finding the open man and making easy shots. ... It feels great to get an easy one." Williams, a reserve guard who scored 15 points, appeared to severely sprain his left ankle after hitting a 3-pointer with 2:39 left. He had to be carried to the locker room. "It is very disappointing," Stotts said. "He was finally getting the bounce back in his step, but we just gotta hope it's not serious and move on."

Badgers take on the Gophers this weekend in a great hockey battle

Border Battle Renews With Wisconsin-Minnesota Hockey Series MADISON, Wis. - One of the most exciting rivalries in college hockey continues when No. 2 Badger men's hockey meets the No. 4 Minnesota Golden Gophers at the Kohl Center for the first contest of a two game series beginning tonight at 7 p.m. The first-place Badgers (18-4-2, 13-3-2 WCHA) hold a four-point lead over the Gophers (16-6-4, 11-5-2 WCHA) in the WCHA standings. Both contests were sold long ago, so fans wishing to catch the action can view it live on FSN North or tape delayed on Wisconsin Public Television. The game can also be heard live on WIBA-AM 1310. Live game audio and postgame news conference at uwbadgers.com. The Badgers will attempt to snap their first two-game losing streak of the season with their last home games for over a month. The Badgers dropped a pair of home contests last weekend to two-time defending NCAA-champion Denver, 1-0 and 4-2. Minnesota earned a home sweep over Colorado College. Wisconsin won both games against Minnesota earlier this season at Mariucci Arena and look to take the season series with Minnesota for the first time since going 4-0-0 against the Gophers during the 1999–00 regular season. Wisconsin also beat Minnesota at the Final Five that season. The series will match the nation's No. 2 offense in Minnesota, against the nation's No. 5 in Wisconsin. The Badgers also boast the nation's top defense. The UW defense will again rely on freshman Shane Connelly, who made his collegiate debut last weekend. Of the five goals allowed last weekend, the Cheltenham, Pa., native, allowed three power-play tallies and two at even strength. The games will be against yet another ranked opponent as the Badgers are 9-2-1 against ranked opponents this season with wins over then-No. 1 Michigan, then-No. 1 Colorado College, and two wins over then-No. 4 Minnesota, then-No. 5 North Dakota and then-No. 5 Colorado College. In all, seventeen of Wisconsin’s 24 games this season have been played against teams with a winning record. That equates to the nation's toughest schedule, according to USCHO.com's RPI rankings. Minnesota has skated against the second-toughest slate. In attendance to witness the series on Saturday will be upwards of 70 Badger men's hockey alumni, who will be part of the Kohl Center's fifth packed building of the season for men's hockey.
