Jack prioritized the things he needed to do if he couldn't find a way out of the forest, with number one in his mind being to make his hut safe and find a way to defend himself. It took him a while, but he finally visualised a way to secure his hut door, without the hassle of a huge log.The flimsy door opened inwards, so if he could just find two sturdy pieces of wood that he could jam into both corners of the hut in front of the door, it would prevent any unwanted predators during the night opening it.
The first thing Jack had to do was to find some suitable wood, but being in a forest he thought it couldn't be too hard.He took note of his surroundings around the hut so he could find his was back easily and headed off down the eastern path of the lake that sprouted from the 'main lake' as Jack started to call it.He thought of the lake as a tennis ball with rope tied from both sides of it, the tennis ball being the main lake, and the rope being the two smaller lakes that continued away from the main area.
No more than ten minutes of walking along side the lake and countless trees, Jack came to what appeared to be a huge pile of wood next to the lake, with half of the pile actually in the lake.It was almost too good to be true so Jack proceeded carefully to the pile, just to be safe.
The wood itself was practically perfect for the hut, although he didn't know the exact size he needed, he was almost certain it would fit. Most of it was the rectangular lumber used for building and he could grip the pieces in one hand.
Jack picked up two pieces, roughly the same size, and decided to take a third piece for his own protection, which appeared to be a 2x4 except only around three quarters of the normal length.Jacks father was a builder, so he always had some type of wood lying out the back of his house and Jack eventually learnt what they were when he visited him.
He carried the two hut pieces on his shoulder, but for his 2x4 he loosened his belt on his shorts and holstered it onto the left side, against his hip. After tightening his belt Jack turned around and headed back to the hut, but he made sure he knew where the pile of wood was, in case he ever needed more.
Upon returning to his hut, Jack spotted a small pig like animal wandering near the hut.He didn't take much notice of the pig until he saw it chewing what appeared to be a berry.
He dropped the two pieces of wood outside his hut a walked a few metres behind the hut to where the pig was, underneath a light green palm type tree. The pig scurried off when Jack came up behind it.There lay a small pile of purple berries at the trunk of the tree.Jack picked lifted one up to his nose and smelt it, exposing a rich odour from it.He had no idea what kind of berry it could be but choose to eat it anyway.
The juicy sensation seemed amazing to Jack, not having eaten anything in over a day.The sensation was shorted lived when he chomped on the huge seed inside it.The seed appeared to make up at least eighty percent of the berry and did not taste half decent at all.
Jack ate the rest of the berry, spitting out the seed and examined the tree. There were at least a dozen berries on each of the trees large leaves. He placed one foot against the tree and used that to jump and push himself high enough to tear a leaf off.The leaf itself was almost the size of Jack and he counted 15 berries on it.
He dragged the leaf with the berries on it back to his hut where he then took the leaf and the pieces of wood inside it.The leaf covered most of the wooden floor of the hut so he thought it would be a good idea to use it as some sort of mat, or carpet.
The two pieces of wood fitted into place perfectly, and formed an X shape across the door, with the ends of the wood lunged tightly into all four corners of the hut in front of the door. The door would barely budge when Jack tried to pull it open with the wood in place and with a smile on his face he ticked off his first task in his mind.
Next he picked off all the berries from the leaf and placed them in a pile on top of his wetsuit,
"Lunch." He said to himself as he sat down on the leaf in the corner of the hut and started eating the berries, one by one.He knew how to conserve food and even though there were a few trees covered with food behind his hut, he was careful not to overdo it and eat a few hundred berries in one sitting.
::More to come shortly:: (And for the record, the berries were acai berries, and the pig type animal was a peccray, so you can check my research if you wish)
