If you have an extended warranty you can get it replaced. Other than that, there are a few options.
1. you can crack the case open and try and fix the problem yourself. This may include buying a new analog stick assembly and installing it. Not at all hard to do.
2. send it to a repair service.

No, you can't do it with 3.40 firmware. You need dark alex's custom firmware eg. 3.40 OE-A to do it. Sorry. If you try to do it on a 3.40 non-custom firmware, you will brick your psp.
Well, this isn't really true. You CANT try this on a 3.40 PSP. You don't have access to the flash0 files that you need to replace.

Lol, eventually yes... my original launch xbox is still working flawlessly to this day. Thompson drive and all. To go even further back, my NES system still works like it was brand new.
