[QUOTE="-Sluggo-"]I think the melting pot may have been true, but I don't think it still holds the same value to it. If you're poor and coming to the United States, I think you have almost no chance at success in our economy. foxhound_fox

Again, that's the point. People coming to the US are searching for the "American Dream" but not everyone will be able to find it. They will give up everything, including their heritage and traditions, just to have what most American people desire.

There is no winning with you is there?

[QUOTE="-Sluggo-"]No, because everyone is different. Like ingredients in a salad. foxhound_fox

But how does that stop them from being in the same pot together seeking the same goal? Not everyone who comes to Canada from another country is seeking the "Canadian Dream."

Because there is no such thing as the "Canadian Dream."

[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"][QUOTE="-Sluggo-"]I disagree with you on the whole "America is a melting pot." Everbody in the same pot and seeking the same goal is not just a United States thing. Everyone needs money, everyone works to make money. I would consider the US a salad, because there are many different cultures, but we just so happen to be mixed together. Locke562

That is a melting pot.

No, because everyone is different. Like ingredients in a salad.

From Wikipedia: "The melting pot is an analogy for the way in which homogeneous societies develop, in which the ingredients in the pot (people of different cultures, races and religions) are combined so as to develop a multi-ethnic society. The term, which originates from the United States, is often used to describe societies experiencing large scale immigration from many different countries."

Okay...I still disagree.

[QUOTE="-Sluggo-"]I'm pretty sure the United States is multicultural. foxhound_fox

There is a difference. In Canada, everyone is encouraged to show off their culture while in the US everyone is encouraged to dump their previous way of life in search of the "American Dream." That why the US is a "melting pot." Everyone is in the same "pot" seeking the same goal.

[QUOTE="FantasySports02"]How so.foxhound_fox

Canada is a multicultural parliamentary monarchy and the United States is a melting pot democratic republic. Quite different.

I'm pretty sure the United States is multicultural.
