Alright, now it's time for the final part, the top four.
Same rules still apply here as they did in the first part.
So, let's get right to it then, shall we?
#4: Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
At number 4, we have Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. For those who don't know, Virtue's Last Reward is a visual novel styled game and the sequel to the DS game 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. And oh my god, this game is amazing. Don't worry, I'm not going to spoil anything for those who haven't played it. There are two different sections to this game: the novel sections, where you simply sit back and watch the story; and the 'Escape the Room' sections, where you need to use everything found in the room to find a way out. The Escape segments are really interesting and fun puzzle challenges. Sure, there might not be any gameplay involved in the novel sections (it's called a visual novel for a reason), but the story is one of the best I've ever seen in a video game. Not only that, but the characters in this game are really interesting and incredibly memorable. There is one major problem with this game, and it's not even with anything to do with the gameplay or story. There are two specific rooms that could corrupt your save file causing you to lose all of your saved data if you happen to save in said room (this is only during the Escape the Room segments of those rooms, however). This can be avoided simply by only saving during the novel sections (which is about 70% of the game, anyway). Aside from that one nasty glitch, this game is absolutely fantastic, and I highly recommend it to anyone with a 3DS or a Vita.
#3: Journey
Y'know, I was pondering for the longest time what my game of the year for 2012 was. It was between this, and the two games at #1 and #2. It was really tough to choose, but I ultimately made my decision. At number 3, we have Journey (not to be confused with the band of the same name). I'm sure everyone that's played this game knows why I put it on my list. I bought this game not knowing what to expect. I had seen no previous gameplay footage and knew nothing about it (aside from seeing a few screenshots). All I knew is that everyone wouldn't stop talking about it. I picked it up and beat it in one sitting. I was absolutely blown away. For those who haven't played it, this is a game where you control the robed person (shown in the picture above) and make your way to the top of the giant mountain (also shown above). That's it. I'm not quite sure why, but something about this game is just amazing. It's really hard to put into words as to why I love it so much. It's really something that has to be played to understand why that is. With that said, do yourself a favor, and buy this game (assuming you have a PS3).
Now, I may have decided that Journey is my #3. However, it took me FOREVER do decide what my #1 was going to be. It was incredibly difficult to choose. I may have made my decision, but these two games are so incredibly close together that it may as well be a tie. But I wasn't going to end my list like that. I suppose I'll just move on and tell you what they are...

#2: Pokemon Black 2/White 2
Okay... now that I've gotten that out of the way... at #2, we have Pokemon Black 2/White 2. I absolutely love Black/White. In fact, it was my #1 game of 2011. But I honestly think that this game is even better. B2/W2 is set 2 years after the events of B/W. Some characters have moved on to do other things in the world. For example, Cheren has become a gym leader, and Bianca has become the assistant to the professor. The protagonist of the last game is nowhere to be seen, however. Maybe they went to go stand on a mountain somewhere. Moving on, I love the characters in this game. I think that Cheren and Bianca fit there roles better in this game than they do in the previous game. Hugh is actually one of my favorite rivals in the whole series (right behind Silver). I also really love the designs of the gyms in this game. Not exactly a significant part of the game, but I think they're really creative and fun. I think the thing I like most about this game is the sheer amount of Pokemon that you can catch during the main storyline (thanks to the regional dex being expanded to 300+ Pokemon). I've played through this game twice now, and my team was completely different both times I played, just because of the vast amount of Pokemon to catch. In that regard, I think this game has a lot of replay value. One of the biggest problems I had with the first game, the small and linear region, is now fixed thanks to the addition of more cities and dungeons. I could go on, but I'm not going to keep you any longer. I absolutely love this game, and it's actually a contender for being my favorite Pokemon game of all time. Yep, even more than Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. I havne't quite decided which I like more, but it's pretty damn close.
Alright, here we are, at my #1. I'll stop stalling and get right to it. My favorite game of 2012 is...

#1: Xenoblade Chronicles
Yeah, I'm sure some of you saw this coming, but hey, this is a fantastic game. Include this game on my list for this year because I live in North America, and we didn't get this game until about a year later than the UK and Australia. But my god, it was worth the wait. For those who don't know, Xenoblade Chronicles is a Wii-Exclusive JRPG developed by Monolith Soft, the team that made the Xenosaga and Xenogears games (none of which I've played). This is probably one of, if not the greatest JRPG of this console generation. The gameplay is fantastic. Everything flows really well, and I absolutely love the battle system. Throughout a battle, as long as you are locked on to an enemy, your character will automatically attack the enemy (although auto-attacks don't do much damage). In order to deal some serious damage on an enemy, you select a special attack (called 'Arts' in this game). After which, you wait a certain amount of time for that particular Art to recharge. It all works very well, but I do a s**tty job at explaining it. :P If I were to recommend one thing, use a classic controller for this game. It's much easier to control the camera with a second analog stick rather than with the Wii Remote's d-pad. Moving on to the graphics. This game is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I'm not even kidding, from an artistic standpoint, this is one of the prettiest games ever made, right up there with Okami. The landmarks are incredibly memorable and always pretty to look at. The story in this game is amazing. Not quite as good as Virtue's Last Reward, but still very interesting. I also really like the characters, with a lot of development for each one throughout the story. Lastly, the music. My god, the music. This game has one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. Everything ranging from beautifully composed orchestral music to fast-paced hard rock. Also, this game is long. About the length of a Persona game. So, about 60-70 hours. It may be incredibly long, but like Persona, the game is good enough to keep me interested for that long amount of time. Not only is Xenoblade Chronicles one of my favorite Wii games, it's also one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. I could go on and on about how I love this and Pokemon Black 2/White 2 so much, but I think I'll stop before I make this any longer than it needs to be.
Before I end this off, I'd like to name off some honorable mentions for this list.
Borderlands 2 (Really great humor and gameplay. It was really close for #10 between this and Dishonored. Consider it my #11.)
Paper Mario Sticker Star (Good game, but definitely my least favorite Paper Mario game. The gameplay is good, but it lacks the creative worlds, characters, and dialogue that TTYD and SPM had.)
Mass Effect 3 (The thing that kept me from putting this on my list was that I didn't play enough of it to give a full opinion on it. But from what I played, I really enjoyed.)
Also, some games that came out in previous years that I played for the first time this year (that I really enjoyed).
Rayman Origins
Batman: Arkham City
Bayonetta
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas
Anyway, that's it for my top 10 games of 2012. Thanks for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed.
For the record, I havne't played The Last Story (which is why it's not on my list), but I intend of playing it soon.
I'm not saying it would be in my top 10 (again, I haven't played it), but I'm just putting that out there in case I end up loving it once I do play it.
Anyway, thank you all so very much for reading, and I hope you're having a fantastic day.
