I believe its dependant on the game, I played wow for 4 years and never regretted paying the monthly sub due to the insane amount of content available on both factions, along with expansion packs that adds almost 1000 hours of quests, endgame content, high end crafting and difficult legendary crafting content and pvp. that game is worth the sub and expac, every other game that came out after isn't.

Since you like somewhat in the openworld setup go for Outcast, if you are daring to go even more oldschool go ultima/fallout/planescape torment but those games are isometric in nature but still open world concept

finished them all on easy, normal and hard. Even farmed them till I unlocked everything. Had one or two frustrating crashes but all in all its just another grind. Buckle up and learn to fly the heli right.
There's a console port and there is a bad console port PC gaming has never gotten a good console port, have we? Maybe Deus ex sets a bar thats acceptable?
