@JustPlainLucas Of course a 6 is not a bad score. The problem is that a lot of sites use varying weights on the scale. Game Informer for one rips apart anything that's not a 7, and when so many different scales are compiled together on Metacritic, people get extremely confused. Add in the stupid school-wide "lower than 60 is failing" garbage and you have a big confusing mess of a widespread rating scale. That's where the pandemonium lies in that regard. Gamespot may think it's "average" but the scale confusion combined with how the review portrays a very negative tone and people are going to be upset.
Also, I don't believe condemning a game like this is something Nintendo "deserves." Super Mario 3D World followed a very similar philosophy up to launch. People thought it would be a bland, boring retread, but it wasn't. It was anything but. This game is also getting a lot of positive reception from everywhere except Gamespot, so giving this score to Nintendo because it "deserves it" doesn't work here, because the general consensus is that it deserves praise.
If the game was terrible in everyone's eyes, I could buy your theory, but it's not, so I don't.
Plus, no one aside from the professional journalists have played this game, so I wouldn't be doling out the "who's right, who's wrong" arguments just yet.
@Kevin-V @bunchanumbers That's extremely subjective. Some games interpret that philosophy in different ways. Some might find Dark Souls hard, but rewarding, others will not.
@mariokarthero @ScreamDream Dude, a biased review is a review. That's what a review is: an opinion. The problem is having a review that substantiates its issues and makes them sound meaningful to why the game was given a certain score. This review is not something I'd consider to be one of those.
@vader501st @AK_the_Twilight I know. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is getting praise across the board as well. The point is that Nintendo fans aren't the only people who get "worked up" over review scores. This is nothing compared to the Last of Us drama from last year; that was the worst anyone's ever seen.
@foxhound_fox Arkham Origins was bad because it was buggy as hell and because those bugs will not be fixed and instead more DLC will be released (which will also be buggy, I'm sure).
@Stevo_the_gamer @ScreamDream This review contradicts itself by saying the levels are dull, but also condemning certain parts of the level that are interesting and make it stand out. I honestly can't take this review too seriously, as the complaints that I read in this review are rather unsubstantiated and petty, while the best moments seem to be undermined and underappreciated. Comparing it to the original DKCR on Wii seems problematic too; I know it's hard to step out of that shadow, but the improvements well outshine the annoyances, especially with the control options.
That's my opinion, quite frankly. Feel free to call me a troll if you want, if you're crafty.
