Crysis will not look like a joke with the next gen games. Actually Crysis is only taking advantage of part of the engine anyways... The whole engine itself is incorporated through game play though, making the said computer choke. And really, the only reason OCTO core is getting the same scores as Dual core generally is because there isnt support yet for OCTO. Its just like when Dual core first came out. Single core still kicked its butt, but I mean, we're just barely taking advantage of Quad core, so Octocore is still more for server based setups then anything else.
That sounds about right malificus1. Especially at the resolution. If you went higher in the res area you'd have to sacrifice some or a lot of visual settings in the other areas. I'm running everything your saying at max with 1600x1200 on a 7800GT OC, but theres some lag at the beginning of the map on say BF 2142 and BF Special Forces. My system is showing its age though.
Coeboznia, Id suggest getting a 450 watt psu. Thats the minimum these days anyways unless you have a underrated card or a old 5 series. Plus you can get a really nice 450 watt Thermaltake power supply for 20 bucks on Newegg as I recall.
Well basically if you look at the release times for the past, I don't know... 6 years, all the video cards have come out at the same time or if at all, a few months apart. tonala, bro. My 7800GT can run DX10, its just not going to have all the features. It will be complete crap. The 8 series card can run DX10.1, but the new features wont be able to run on the 8 series card. DX10 is still in its infant stages. The only benefit seen so far in a game such as Crysis from the DX10 to the DX9 counterpart is how the lighting looks. Its like the Xbox 360 for instance. The games are getting better looking over time, but the hardware hasn't changed. Its all a matter of developers and their use of the technology, etc.
Yes, an 8 series card will run DX10.1 DX10.1 simply has 2 features which are in DX10, but are now mandatory features, so the 9 series cards will be more adept at running DX10.1 I would suggest a 9 series card, that being just waiting a few more months and at least getting one of the lower models, but Ive stated that numerous times, its really up to you.
cpeboznia, can you please clarify your question, I can hardly understand what your trying to ask. The 8, 7 and 6 series cards are pci express 16 only, so Id bet the same for the 9 series cards also. As for the rest of your question, I don't know what you were asking.
I agree with brood_alliance, although if I was buying a video card now Id get the 8800GTS 640MB. mailificus, Yeah man, I understand, I want to buy a new computer now too, but really those next gen games like Crysis wont be out until right before or during the holiday season, so its good to be smart about it and just wait. I also want Ultimate, but to clarify your worry with driver issues, Microsoft is releasing service pack 1 to fix a hell of a lot of issues in November or during the holiday season, until then I'm not laying a finger on a Vista package.
My solid opinion is to just (wait) a few more months, because Nvidia will be releasing their new products for the holiday season and you can either get one of those products, or enjoy the fact that these 8 series cards will go down dramatically in price, although, what your looking at paying here will be around the price range of the 9 series cards that are similar to the 8 series and radeon card your looking at getting, although of course it will be far better. Also on that Intel processor, AMD is also unveiling their new processors so Id also wait for those and see what they are capable of, because Im pretty sure AMD is going to take back the crown with their new quad and octocore cpu's, and with that prices will go down dramatically in that area also.
Well, Id get Vista after the Service pack comes out... That is if they correct that over populated problems that are known in the operating system. Also, I do listen bikemba. Please do not take any of my comments negatively, although I have previously stated that almost all of the 8 series cards are crap. Also, I am only trying to help those that cant wait, such as malificus1. If I were him, Id wait for 9 series cards and AMD's Octocore, or at least wait for these cards to go way down in price as what I have previously stated will be coming out very, very soon. Also bikemba, I was far from calling you out. But as said, its hard to interpret what is negative and what is positive through just words on a computer screen.
