I think it was good on ideas, poor on writing, very poor on editing the script. If it were made into a movie with the same script, the movie would be known as one of the worst of all time.
I have no idea why so many gamers think the story is so great. Perhaps because they are culturally impoverished gamers who never finished a classic novel in their life.
Its still an awesome game though. One of the best ever.
