Hey guys

First of all, the pictures in this thread are big.

Lets begin with a controller mockup I made some time ago, which you can see here:

Phat version

Slim version

In short: Touch screen, 3D slider (just for the fun of it), 2 front speakers and 1 rear "subwoofer/surround" speaker, headphone jack, information lights and the basic buttons and sticks. Four shoulder buttons along with two trigger buttons on the back, very suitable for racing games for example.

--

Then there was a second controller, which I personally like better. It's a giant screen mixed with a Gamecube-esque handles. Yes, the circles overlap the screen, I like that look for some reason. It's basically the same funtionality as the first controller, but might fit petter in your hands plus there is no 3D slider here. I made the menu interface for it also.

Second controller

The idea behind the interface is that you get a mini version of the console menu on the controller screen. You can do everything there, as you can see: Emails, browse the net, read news, check rankings, listen to music, watch movies, write notes, chat with friends.. You also get an action log, to see what your friends are doing. The color of the interface, here in red, could also be changed to your liking.

When selecting a game, you would slide your finger from one side to the other and the games roll from side to side, kinda like on the iPod/iPad I guess. As you can see, the four games to left and right are represented by logos, but the center game, Metroid Prime 3 in this case, has Samus coming out of the icon. If you had Mario Galaxy 2 in the center, you would for example have Mario on Yoshi coming out of the icon. So the center icon is always the action-icon.

Up in the left corner you got your status icons: Battery, WiFi on/off, Stream on/off and Bluetooth on/off. Up in the right you have your online shop credits and brightness setting.

Now there have been dozens of controller and console mockups on the net, and many are way better than mine.. but since I enjoy making this kind of stuff, I wanted to get your opinion on what can be done better. I don't know how to do fancy 3D graphics, to make it pop out more, so flat images are the thing for me. I would love to see my console in 3D model.

The new console is rumored to look a bit like the NES. So I wanted to make something out of that. My mockup has NES, SNES and Wii all mixed in one. The NES parts are obvious, but look at the console from the top and you might see a hint of the SNES top view. The CD slot is borrowed from the Wii. The main casing is dark gray in matte finish, circled around by brushed aluminium/steel. It's very basic, because I wanted to make a console that looks nice in your living room, and does not look like a George Foreman grill or something that make people go "What the F is that?". I put my second controller design with it, to give my little mockup a more complete look.

So, my idea of how the console might look, or my idea on a nice looking console actually, is this:

Nintendo Stream console with second controller

I wanted to implement an information screen into the front of the console. I had various ideas floating around, tried them but never liked the look of it so I was at the brink of just skipping it. Then on IGN, I saw a mockup made my Aaron Carr, where he used the NES black square there as a screen. I liked it and borrowed the idea and it worked very well. In return, I got a big, clean space on the front of the console which made it look better. Sometimes, less is more.

My little dilemma is the top of the console. I'm never fully satisfied with it. I've made a few versions of it, so I need your opinion on what looks the best or what I can do to make it look better. All ideas are appreciated.

So these are the versions that I've made:

Version 1

Just a "Stream" logo I made, to put something there. The logo is a big S in a sphere, which is supposed to represent a Globe and an Eye. For "internet/connection" and "Entertainment". Or you can just imagine it's a basketball.

Version 2

Same logo, with backlit outlines.

Version 3

Backlit logo moved up, brighter color to make it stand more out. Engraved Nintendo logo between the two NES black squares.

Version 4

No "Stream" logo, Nintendo logo still at the top, but bigger cooling grille/vent and the aluminium casing has been stretched up. Mind that the aluminum is sloped down, to match the slope seen on the front of the console and the cooling grille/vent are sloped into the console.

I might update this thread with more ideas I'm messing around with, but for now I just wanted your opinon on what I have created as of now. Does it suck? Any good? What version of the top is the best?

Thanks

Arnar

EDIT: Made the links clickable! So much better, right?

EDIT 2: Front view in different colors here! And brighter colors here!

Found this on IGN boards http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_lobby/b8270/201896193/p1/?1 Sounds like bull**** but: More leaks about Project Cafe: - Nintendo are planning a full reveal of the console, controller and 1st/2nd party games at E3. - The console is confirmed to be backwards compatible with all Wii/Gamecube titles, and all your VC games will be transferred over once you link your credit card to the system. - Many 3rd party developers have development kits who are supposedly hard at work to have something to show (and play) at E3. - 3rd Parties were involved with the development of the console, with requests for what specifications they'd like to see. As of now (which could change) the system runs of a custom built IBM triple-core CPU and has 2gb RAM. The graphics chip is a custom built Radeon R700 chip. - There is an internal SSD. Size is unknown at this point. - It will run natively at 1080p. - The new controller slightly resembles a Gamecube controller with a large LCD screen in the middle of it. The controller is light for its size and looks like a tablet with Gamecube-like prongs to the side. It has dual analogue sticks, face buttons, d-pad and shoulder buttons. No triggers were on the device. - The screen on the controller is indeed a 6" LCD high resolution (reported 640 x 960 pixels) display. However, Nintendo said in order to keep battery life manageable, the controller doesn't have any hardware to produce graphics itself. The image is simply a video stream directly from the console. - The controller uses rechargeable lithium ion batteries. Size of the battery is unknown. - The Wiimote can be used and a new model of Wiimote will be released with the console. This new controller will have overhauled internals allowing for much more precise movement tracking than even the Wiimote Plus had. - The Project Cafe system development kit is not representative of the final console design. The console is smaller and resembles the Japanese/European SNES models. - Nintendo have told developers that their online system will be 'the best online experience' that's available on consoles. The whole idea of the machine is to be connected to the internet 24/7. It's being targeted as an online/social console. Friend codes are gone, but no word on whether the online service will be subscription based. - The Pokemon RPG is the title Nintendo will be showing off their online experience with. - As reported by other sources, Nintendo is targeting this console to the hardcore gamers once again. - Nintendo is planning on some sophisticated inter-game communication between the 3DS and the console. Nintendo didn't explain what they're planning on. To be shown at E3: Nintendo: - Pikmin 3 (playable, launch title) - Pokemon RPG (video, launch or near launch title) - Super Mario Bros title (playable) - Star Fox (playable) - Smash Bros 4 (playable) - Mario Kart (video) - Zelda (tech demo) - Metroid (tech demo) - New IP (video) Rockstar Games: - Red Dead Redemption 2 (video) - Grand Theft Auto "New Title" (video) Ubisoft: - Rayman Legends (playable) - Red Steel 3 (playable) - New IP (video) SquareEnix: - Final Fantasy XV Capcom: - Resident Evil (video) - Megaman (video) - Monster Hunter (video) EA: - NBA '13 (video) - NFL '13 (video) - NHL '13 (video) Activision: - Modern Warfare 3 (video) Konami: - Metal Gear title (video) - Winning Eleven (video) Namco: - Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (playable) - Soul Calibur 5 (video) - Pacman Rebirth (video)

I have seen the first two before but not the last.

Looks fake to me due to the weird reflection on the table. Plus why is the light on?

Thanks I made a quick "Lite" version, slimmer on the handles. It made the BAXY buttons a bit close to the edge, but you can see what it could look like if it lost a pound or two. http://www.simnet.is/arnarfb/StreamController2.jpg

Hey guys

New poster here but a longtime lurker.

I've read a lot of rumors regarding the new console and I've seen plenty of mockups of what the controller will look like. It's supposed to have a screen and maybe streamed games/media to it.. So I wanted to make my own version of what it might look like. Didn't know where to post this actually, so I'll have a go here. It's just a fun thing to do with all these rumors.

IMAGE: http://www.simnet.is/arnarfb/StreamController.jpg

So, what I did was make the screen a bigger version of the 3DS screen, with the 3D slider as well. You'll also notice the front and two rear cameras. I thought it would be kinda cool to be able to have a video chat with someone through the controller, so there comes the front camera. The rear camera would be for taking 3D photos and video. You could then view it on the controller screen and then send it to the console to save it, edit it and share it with others. The cameras would be higher resolution than the ones found on the 3DS.

The screen could be used for inventory, maps, plays in sports games, substitutions and more when playing a game on a TV screen. Even stats in racing games like position, laps, car damage and tire wear. It could all be viewed in 3D too. I think this kind of controller would be sick in racing games. Imagine having the map of the course on the controller, like some drivers in F1 have on their steering wheel, you steer with the controller, since it will most likely have motion control, and ZL and ZR are used as flap-pedal gearshifters.

R and L are level sensitive, like on the Gamecube controller. 1 and 2 are just on/off buttons and + and - are positioned above the X and Y so they could be programmed for in-game use if needed, for example a flashlight or a medkit. Having them placed below the screen would mean they were only usable in the menus, since you'd have to let go of the controller to press them, most likely. They have the same functionality as on the Wiimote in home menus, though. Below the screen are the regular Select, Home and Start buttons.

Above the screen you see five lights. One is obviously for the camera, like on the 3DS. Then you have battery status, wifi signal, stream on/off and bluetooth on/off. The first two of the four are self explanatory. Stream signal would be yellow when the controller is receiving streamed game or media and if the rumor is true that you can stream the entire games to the screen on the controller and no need for a television, it would stay on when doing so. The Bluetooth light would be blue when the controller is working in tandem with the console to play a game on a TV screen, but when you stream a game to the controller you would not need constant feedback from controller to console, so to save battery life, Bluetooth would be turned off automatically.

Games being played/streamed to the controllers screen would be viewable in 3D as well, though they are not on regular TV screens. Just a fun option. But there's one thing I've felt is missing in all these mockups I've seen. If the console is to be able to stream games/media to the controller to be played on it, what else do you need? Ah, sound. So on the bottom of the controller, next to Select and Start there are two front facing speakers for stereo sound. If you want extra little "oomph" out of your neat little controller, you can add the third speaker on the back into the mix. The surround speaker/subwoofer. The grille for the speaker also comes in handy to cool the controller. Below the Home button would be a headphone jack, if you'd want to enjoy your games/media in full privacy.

So that's basically my little mockup. Propably not AT ALL what Nintendo have in mind, one thing I know is a controller like this isn't as precise in "pointing" and "swordfighting" like the Wiimote, so what they have up in their sleeve I have no idea, but these times before we know anything are just so much fun. A lot of specualtion, lots of rumors and lots of bullcrap. Love it.
