A little less than 150 watts is nothing for what you get inside them. Especially if you compare it to something like a 42 inch LCD TV that averages about 111 watts and the same size plasma will use about 340 watts.
The eye not seeing beyond 30 FPS is a myth and one that bugs me.
The human eye can physiologically detect up to 1000 frames per second. The average human, tasked with detecting what frame rate he/she is looking at, can accurately guess up to around 150 fps. That is, they can see the difference in frame rates all the way to 150 fps.
