HD is definitely better than SD. When I first got the Wii, the games were pretty good, but they felt like they were lacking something. Then I got a 360 and took full advantage of my HDTV, and while the gameplay was essentially the same (read: fun) the massive improvement in detail greatly enhanced the overall experience. It'll be hard going back to playing Wii games, unfortunately :)

1) The failure rate, I've heard, is around 30%. However, as long as you keep the 360 in an open space, and don't play for 18 hours a day, you should be absolutely fine. And don't buy 3rd party fans, they only make the problem worse.

2) Not totally sure if there are any quality titles available for 20 bucks. A relatively good price/quality game would be dead rising for 40 bucks.

3) Do NOT get the core system. Get the premium if you plan on just playing a alot of games, or the elite if you ALSO plan on downloading tons of demos/TV programs/movies.

Definitely Oblivion. It may not have online, but that means no idiots to ruin the game ever. Plus the gameplay really draws you into it becuase it feels like you can do almost anything; it's almost like a medieval Grand Theft Auto.

Crackdown is terrible, it's a total waste of money. It's an absolutely mindless game without the charm that makes games like RE4 or GTA so amazing. Save your money, there are many, many great games coming out this fall.

Gears of War is a better shooter overall. Rainbow six has good multiplayer, but the singleplayer is terrible. Oblivion though is definitely the best game for the system right now.

Quite frankly, unless you have the xbox out in the open, on a table or something, you are most likely going to have issues.
