The problem is, there are no benefits for the consumer. We don't know that yet. If they offer deals similar to Steam then that is a great benefit. Is it going happen? Unlikely but I am not judging anything until everything is final.

I am starting to question how poor some people are. If you are too broke to afford a phone with a good data plan then maybe you shouldn't buy a next gen system. Living above your means is a guaranteed way to stay poor. Priorities... Someone hasn't used Sprint where phone prices do not impact the poor quality. My ex gf had Sprint and it worked fine. I use Tmobile and that works just fine as well.
