Thanks for comments all. Yes, I realise all these games are M, but Ive found I need to see if they contain specific things that will scare my son. eg: walking down a corridor in Resistance is scary, taking on a dragon in Skyrim is not, anything with creepy music is scary, shooting zombies is not (too fake a concept to inspire fear). So while my son wont walk down a corridor in Resistance, he is fine in an open area of resistance where he feels he can run away and also see whose coming. Also, I dont and wont let him play M games by himself, so he always gets input on the context or images hes seeing. This is why SW BF was so good, its in a setting he knows well as a fake and the violence is not based on realism but on action movies. It had gameplay good enough for me and a context good for him. I'll just keep looking..

I know most games are 720P and upscaled to 1080P, question is will forcing my PS3 video settings to 720P make games look better even thou my TV is 1080P or should i leave it at 1080P, reason im asking this is games look kinda blury and dont feel smooth as should and wondering if thats gonna fix the problem.

It could be another setting, I use 1080p with my PS3 and it defaults to any other resolution when required, then back to 1080p when its done.

If you like dark souls then you will like skyrim.

I agree, its a matter of finding a game to match the time available. I think a more action-focused game like Amalur will give more short term bang for buck thats all. I did say just wait for the GOTY edition of Skyrim, it',ll still be fantastic in 5 years time.

[QUOTE="rragnaar"]

I'm up to 57 hours in the game. Good lord... I love it so much. I just finished off the main quests for the Dark Brotherhood and I'll probably put a few more hours into it before moving on to either the Companions or the main storyline. I loved that the Dark Brotherhood had a bunch of references to Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood story.

I really wish I would've played Oblivion so I could appreciate those references myself. But alas, it was not meant to be. I never even got into this sort of game until Fallout: New Vegas.

Anyways, I've got about the same hours as you put into Skyrim as well. 56 to be exact. So far I've finished the College of Winterhold questline and I'm at the tail end of the Thieves Guild quest line right now. After I'm finished with that, I'll probably finish up the Dark Brotherhood stuff since I've already started it. Then I'll focus on the Companions. I haven't really felt all that compelled to do anything with them so far. They seem boring compared to the other factions I've gotten in with in Skyrim. But I'll get it done nonetheless. Then, after all that, I'll try to focus on the main storyline. Although I'll probably get side-tracked like I always do. My SADD(Skyrim Attention Deficit Disorder) always gets the best of me. lol

Play through the companions so you can take Beast Form (warewolf). Easily worth the time in quests and you always get plenty of good gear...

A few things to consider....if you dont havelarge amounts of time to spend with Skyrim (3-4 hrs a few/most days a week) you will spend your dayswishing onlyto return, so save yourself the grief. You can spend 2 hours just sorting through your inventory, or buying, selling, making, hunting, etc but make no progress through any story or quest. You'll love it though and will still want to tackle that 2 hr dungeon before tunring in...Wait for the GOTY edition with tons of DLC for free! I thinkif you likedDark Souls you would be better to hang for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, out early next year. Think Skyrim mixed with God of War/Castlevania style combat, muchmore action focused, and with the precise action Skyrim lacks but you will really notice coming off DS,and still with a solid RPG system (looting, craftingn levelling) to enjoy.

Thanks for the comments, really useful cause there are plenty of games out there to sort through. Only had the PS3 for 10 months but getting a decent (used, except for Skyrim!) collection of games. I'll check out the GS review of Borderlands and see if the context makes the gore a bit comic rather than psycotic! Either way Ill probably get it for myself as it sounds just right! What about a Battlefield BC rather than MW for the destructible environments (great fun for kids, spend and hour levelling an area)? But its got to be a co-op mode, preferably an arena or large area than corridors and balconies. Its tricky finding a match even with somany games available in the 7-10 score range (ie decent).

Whats the 5 coolest or most memorable things you've done in Skyrim so far? Mine are below:

1) Being attacked by a dragon at night in a snowstorm on an isolated goat track in dense woods...I only knew it was there cause the whole screen went white when it 'talked' to me..I ran for my life in a random direction of course!

2) Shouting a necromancer of a cliff!!

3) Chasing a buttefly across half of whiterun cause it wouldnt come down close enough to catch..

4) Enchanting a pickaxe to a 'Pickaxe of Fear'...bwaa ha ha ha!

5) Taking a Bard (Sven from Riverwood) into Bleak Falls Barrow....he died when I flamed him while trying to save his life (note: dont use area effects near companions!)...but the songs up till then were great! I always get any new bard I meet to sing some songs, I would buy an album of them just to laugh at!

SO, drop a line and lets see whats coming out of the woodwark now that Skyrim is a week+ old.

I play on an 80GB fatty (bought second hand) and have had the following issues with Skyrim:

Sometimes a speach option wont accept my click of the button, I have to repeat several times or walk away and come back

Sometimes the Save option in the menu is dull, not white and I have to walk to a new area and try again. Sometimes just waiting fixes this, but not waiting in the menu, waiting back in the game. Its actually all commands except Help, not just Save...

Shadows look.....well, like everyone elses on PS3/XBox (better than those in GT5 though!!). No frame-rate drops that Ive noticed but if it happened while a dragon was attacking then I was too busy to care!

Save file now at 4.6MB....no problems yet, though I only use 1 save file (makes your descicions more meaningful and battles scarier!). My son and partner also have games, so I guess its 3 save files plus any autosaves for the current game.

When I change weapons/spells via Favourites or regular menu it does take a few secopnds (up to 5) before my choice appears in my hand, sometimes I die waiting for the item to appear...but maybe this is normal and I need to choose before they are on top of me...
