Ive just been told to check out Borderlands and Army of Two (2), what do you all think of these games or others similar? I realise they may not have the solo-deathmatch but could still be viable FPS/3PS to play with my son ie: arcadey/simpler shooters (comparted to MW/BF) with lots of cool visuals (not always graphic quality but thats fine if gameplay is fun) and upgradeable weapons/gear (like an adult Ratchet n Clank maybe??). All comments much appreciated!

Thanks guys/girls for your comments, I will check those games out. It was a shock when we played the first resistance and both chose humans, then walked out into a huge empty arena.....err, guess I shoot you then dad!! Yeah, SWBF 3....so many possibilities, so many ways they could stuff it up!

I used to play Star Wars Battlefront (1 & 2) on PS2 and loved how I could just drop into a 16 player (15 AI, 1 me) deathmatch game for some casual/arcade shooting fun. Can anyone recommend a current PS3 game that has this playstyle feature? I dont think MW 1/2/3 or BF1/2/3 have this. Also, I would like to play this with my 10 yr old son (also played SW:BF) so nothing too scary or gory.
