I thought that ToEE had the best tactical combat. I don't see the appeal of real time combat where everything is a click fest. IF i wanted to play diablo i would, but i'm not I'm trying to play a D&D based game. NWN 2 wasn't nearly as good as it needed to be. I would like to see more games like this, but I is not going to happen.

Hopefully I am wrong.

i'm 28, i'll be 29 in november (not anywhere close yet...). i've been playing all my life it seems. with my older cousins on their atari system back in the very early 80's (1981 iirc), then to my own coleco, and later onto playing games on commodore, to IBM clones, the 8-bit NES, and so forth.

first console was the coleco vision, played me some pong, great sports titles, haunted house, and so forth.

my first 'rig' had two 5"1/4 drives, no hard drive, 32 mb RAM, MS-DOS 3 and i used to play a lot of zaxxon, lode runner type games.

I do not think that I'm going to stop playing anytime soon, but it IS an expensive hobby that I could do without financially.

for the record, i *liked* the game; it just wasn't anywhere close to being 8/10 material for me -- at least not the OC and stuff like that. i am awaiting more content from the modding community. what really sucked for me was the combat. ever since the combat changed from turn based to a more oblivion style in NWN 1 and continued onto NWN 2 i've been less interested in playing these games. part of the rpg's of old involved strategic combat, like a complicated chess mass. now it's deviating into random fire spells and great cleave issues. i'm a big of a D&D junkie, so this is an issue for me. the best combat representation for a D&D game that I can remember was in Temple of Elemental Evil. That game was far inferior to NWN 1 and NWN 2, but had much better combat. Even better combat than BG 1 and BG 2.

I don't know why developers are shying away from turn based combat, instead of some hybrid system build on D&D rules, but stripped down like it was marketed for people with ADHD problems and have no attention spans . . . if you're playing on a PC, chances are you don't mind thinking a bit.

guess that's why they say 'save early, save often'.

I had more fun playing BG2 than this game.

the campaign isn't that great. i didn't experience all of those bugs that the previous poster detailed, and my AI team mates did happen to use their abilities a bit more (power attack, cleave, etc...). the real 'benefit' of the game is from the modding community. there are a few good things out there right now, surf the net, you'll find some quality stuff.

if you are only playing the game for the campaign or single player stuff then you're not going to be sufficiently pleased with the product.

I don't know how to build a car, and i don't have the time to learn, or the incentive . . . so . . . i buy pre-made cars. in the amount of time it would take me to learn out to make a mercedes benz i would have been able to buy two. some gamers do not want to have to learn how to make a pc, but would rather spend their time playing games . . .

coming off with an elitist attitude makes you look like a dick. i'm happy that you saved money and make your own computer. that's great -- for you. some people don't have that time, the technical know-how, or the desire.

obviously it's more economical to make your own, and you get the sense of satisfaction having built your own system. no one can take that away from you.

I can check my e-mail from MS-Dos 5.x, that doesn't mean I want to spend my time assembling a PC to play games on, learn how to put in liquid cooling, and if i mess something up, it's all my fault. alienware has horrible technical support, but sometimes they can actually help if you mess up, or service your computer if YOU mess it up yourself. a newbie computer builder is only going to put himself into risky territory by trying to build one himself, and if he happens to damage one of his components in the process, he just threw away $400 for a video card.

I'm happy that some people can go out there and build their own stuff. that's great for them. it's empowering. almost as empowering as having a 6 figure annual salary. for those people, we can afford to buy machines to play on, and have the safety net of being able to pay someone to fix it.

RPG's (in no order): Oblivion, Baldur's Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights 2

maybe you'll like Spellforce 2 . . . it's a hybrid type of game (RTS and RPG and Action/Adventure)
