Final Fantasy XIII for the Wii: Confirmed
July 25th, 2008
Standing outside his Tokyo headquarters Yoichi Wada, the CEO of Square Enix, confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII, the latest in the best-selling role playing series, will not be coming to PC. However, Wada revealed that there will be a third platform on which the game will make an appearance.

"In developing Final Fantasy XIII for the Nintendo Wii we believe we can truly target the 'core' market of Wii owners Nintendo have completely forgotten about, as evidenced by their recent conference in Los Angeles," commented Wada, snickering before promptly assuming a solemn stance to continue his announcement. "FFXIII will truly set a standard for all Wii games to follow."
However, Wada failed to mention the severe downscaling that Final Fantasy XIII would undergo in its Wii development process, scheduled for after PS3 and 360 development is complete. Our man on the inside has informed us that Squenix have tried to essentially take the standard PS3 graphics and port them directly onto the underpowered Nintendo console. This has resulted in graphics Square are apparently dubbing "GloFrenzy-rendered". 'GloFrenzy' depicts FFXIII's action in a severely over-saturated white-out filter, ultimately acting to disguise the horrifying compression of PlayStation 3 graphics on a lower-spec console. This dubious rendering also results in the Wii's GPU overheating after one hour of continuous play.

When asked about the GloFrenzy rendering system, Wada remained tight-lipped, remarking that "graphic-rendering techniques will be disclosed later in the development process". Save for over-intensive graphics, the rest of Final Fantasy XIII's content will be present and correct, spread over 6 dual-layer Wii Optical Discs. Wiimote waggling will be included in the renovated combat system, Wada confirmed, with the MotionPlus peripheral also supported for 1:1 slicing and dicing as well as deadly-accurate pistol aiming. Summon attacks will also be charged with frantic waving of the Wii Remote.

"We're completely confident FFXIII on the Wii will be a total success," said Wada towards the unplanned end of the conference. "We're almost certain that it will outsell the other two platforms due to the Wii's larger consumer base. Nothing can go wrong!"
At this moment, smoke erupted from the windows of Square Enix's Wii development division accompanied by cries of "No! Fainaru Fantaji!" erupting from the smouldering building. Wada quickly dismissed the press conference, assuring us that FFXIII will make its Wii appearance in 2010.
