Maybe this is part of their reevaluation process after the resignation of their president? I think at this point Square Enix has got to focus more on their flagship opus -- their role-playing game portfolio.
I keep going back to the old adage that continues to stand the test of time in the video game world -- graphics and performance mean nothing if there is no fun factor. Nobody wants a Cadillac without an engine; or colorful beads without a string holding them together to make a necklace. It just doesn't work. It's tragic to see development studios shuttered because of pressure to make AAA games that emphasize style over substance.
Epic Mickey had good ideas, but poor execution. I'm really sorry it had to end like this, especially with Warren Spector. I wish him the best in his future adventures.
I'd have to say I agree with you on this one, Tom. As much as I love Nintendo, I was quite disappointed with their news conference. They've apologized twice already for both the 3DS and the Wii U. That, to me, isn't a good sign. They really need to stop saying sorry and start breaking ground before they find themselves sinking in it.
