You need an OS, or it will be a $500 brick.

Yes, you will need to upgrade the power supply. I have a prebuilt HP similar to yours, the only difference is it came in a smaller case, and no TV tumer, and shipped with integrated graphics, which i immediately replaced. ( with an 8600GT.) But the 8600GT requires at least 400watts, and the 4800s are more powerful, so I would estimate around 450W will do for the base 4850/70.

I am in the market for an upgrade from my old 8600GT. I don't want to go higher than $200. At first I was looking at the 8800s, but the ATI 4800s and nvidia 9800s came out. Heres the 2 I am looking at right nao. Radeon 4850 - $170 http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3921310&CatId=3670 and 9800GTX -$150 after rebate http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3732815&CatId=3670 I have been hearing conflicting reports on which is better. And I have concerns about the 9800 fitting in the case. http://images.compusa.com/itemdetails/M975-5178/M975-5178-out2-la.jpg there is a picture of the case. I bought an hp with that case, because at the time the refurbished prebuilt was cheaper than the quad core that came in it.

Okay, I am planning on getting a PS3 when the 80GB gets marked down. Earlier today, I signed up for a PSN account through the PSN website (The one in my sig below my xbox account.) And I wanted to know it it would work with the PS3 when I get it? I just wanted to secure the name before some n00b gets it.

With the transfer cable, you can transfer. And yes it is a good move, assuming you swap hard drives as well.
