DOA4 hands down. Even though is old by now, no other game -released or unreleased- can top it's fluidity, speed and animation quality. In comparison, all the other fighting games feel stiff and artificial. I guess even with SFIV looming in the horizon, DOA4 is my fave.
I'm also eagerly looking forward to play Street Fighter IV, I'm not much into Resident Evil since RE Code Veronica (I miss the good old zombies of yesteryear, and also miss fun things like the Jill vs. Nemesis mechanic). For me it would take something more beside SF4 -like Megaman Legends 3 or Dead or Alive 5 or a Capcom made Marvel Super Heroes- to make this gaming year a truly memorable one.
Oh, I almost forgot KOF XII, I really expect a lot from that game too. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, well, I doubt we'll see that one this side of the world and I refuse to get a japanese Wii just to play it. That and the fact that the Gamecube controller doen't feel right in fighting games, I don't know about the classic controller.
Well, for me it'll be, since I don't like Tekken. But so far I don't know of any other fighting game being announced for this year, let's be honest, though, the other two franchises that could be taken as competitors would be Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter and none of those franchises have any sequel on the horizon. In short, yeah, SFIV will most likely be the fighting game of 2009.
