Well the Be Quiet! Pure Rock is meant to be 1 degree lower than the Hyper 212+/Evo. I never applied any thermal paste. Basically the heatsink came with a plastic lid from the back. Upon removing that cover there was already white thermal paste attached to the metal heatsink. So I didn't remove it or reapply any thermal paste.

I used the exact same cooler for my mums AMD FX-6300 Processor where max temps are 44 degrees at full stress testing even after hours of it being under full load and lowest idle temp 20 degrees. But using the same cooler for the FX-8370 causes the temps to go over 60+ degrees in only 2 minutes before I quickly stop the process! So I am sure the temps would go even higher if I leave the process on.

So I am confused whether these temps should be ok. Because I know safest max temp is 62 degrees for the FX-8370. Yet I was reading in many forums including PCPartPicker where a guy recommended it to me as he managed to overclock his FX 8350 to 4.5 GHz and still keep it cool. Yet I can't see my temps cool even with stock 4.0 GHz speed. So I don't understand what's going on.

However, one possibility I am suspecting is that during the installation the heatsink was moving several times. So I am wondering that maybe it scraped off the thermal paste a bit during the installation process. But that shouldn't really be responsible for causing this. I am still wondering whether this cooler is sufficient for the FX-8370 or whether I need watercooling. :S

I am having a problem with my CPU temperatures despite installing the new Be Quiet! Pure Rock cooler to replace the Stock AMD Cooler. I have an AMD FX-8370 Processor at Stock Speed.

I installed the Be Quiet! Pure Rock Cooler but with the stock thermal paste that was already attached. I remove the old one from the cpu with the thermal removing alcohol. But my temperatures are shooting up to 64 degrees celcius in only 2 minutes of stress testing before I quickly stop the process!!! Is this normal?!

Idle temps lowest is 33 degrees celcius. But when I do a full 100% stress test in just 2-3 minutes the temps would exceed over 60 degrees. I was wondering whether this is normal.

i have installed the same cooler for my mums PC that has an AMD FX-6300 CPU but her temps are low. Highest 44 degrees even after hours of stress testing while lowest 20 degrees.

But on my dads FX-8370 CPU highest so far is 64 degrees celcius before I quickly stop the process. While lowest is 33 degrees celcius. I am wondering whether these are normal results?

Or do I need an even more powerful cooler than that? My motherboard is ASROCK 970M Pro3. And my case is Aerocool X-Strike GT! Many thanks...

Hello all.
I am looking to build a new PC with an AMD 8 Core FX-8370 and a GTX 970/R9 290.
I know that I need good cooling system particularly for the new AMD processor and Graphics Card.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XFX-Bravo-Type-1-Mid-Tower-ATX-Case-Black-/331590375347
I was wondering whether this case provides great cooling system so that I don't need to install many coolers. It seems to have great airflow. But I still want to ask, just in case.

Many Thanks!

Yeah I was aware that most decent CPU coolers would require opening the motherboard for the backplate.

Well, after much research I went with this CPU Cooler!
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Zalman-CNPS7X-LED-CPU-Cooler-Review/1320/4
I know it's also made out of plastic stand but I can see considerable improvements compared to the previous cooler that I had and it doesn't require opening the motherboard. It has 4 plastic pins that directly clip into the motherboard through push pins. It uses the same installation mechanism as the stock Intel CPU Cooler.

I remember it was the same mechanism like the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 which didn't require removal of the motherboard..
And according to the benchmarks over at Hardware secrets shows.

Zalman CNPS7X LED max temp 40 degrees Celsius
Arctic Freezer 7 PRO Rev. 2 max temp 54 degrees Celsius

Not bad. I think next time when I build a completely new computer from scratch, I'll consider buying a better cooler with a backplate.:)

Currently I am using Intels Stock CPU Cooler for my Quad Core Q8400 2.66 GHz stock CPU LGA775 Socket.

The problem I've got is that when I run games like Battlefield 3/Bad Company 2 suddenly after like 40 minutes of play, usually when a multiplayer map is being loading the temp jumps to 71 degrees celcius for one of the cores the rest of the 3 cores stay at 62, 64, 66 when testing RealTemp or Core Temp.

Idle temps remain at 38, 38, 33, 37 degrees celcius. I do know that the max safe temperature for my CPU is 71.4 degrees. So I need to make sure that the temperatures are below 71.4 degrees celcius.

Anyway, I used to have before that an Arctic Freezer Pro 7 Rev 2 Aftermarket cooler for 2 years which did the job perfectly. This was easy to connect and didn't require removal of the motherboard for it to be mounted in. This was doing my job well with max temps of 67 degrees, never crossing any higher than that.

The problem is that until recently 3 months ago, the plastic mounting part that was holding the cooler developed a crack. This caused major problems where my CPU temps were suddenly rocking high at 70+ even at idle. So I quickly replaced back to my stock Intel CPU Cooler applied fresh thermal paste, etc, all was okay. But not great in games like BF3/BFBC2 where the temps jump to 71 degrees celcius.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I am looking for a CPU Cooler that's better than the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 without needing to remove the motherboard, but at the same time with the mounting being made out of metal. I would prefer it to be made out of metal instead of plastic, that way I won't have to worry about it cracking again.

Initially I ordered Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO which I know is very good, but as soon as I found out that I need removal of the motherboard, I cancelled the order. I know I can remove the mobo, but it is a big hassle to remove the motherboard especially when my system is pretty outdated anyway. There's no way of attaching the metallic bracket at the back of my motherboard of my PC Case without requiring the removal of the mobo. So I really do want to avoid having to remove the motherboard altogether just to fit the cooler in.

Can anyone recommend a CPU Cooler that is much better than the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 without requiring removal of the motherboard and without the plastic stand? Something that's compatible for Micro ATX motherboard, LGA 775 Socket, Quad Core Q8400 2.66 GHz stock.

Thanks!

I was gonna say that I thought it was a second edition of Shadowrun. The first one that came out in 2007.

However, something tells me this is just only the same name. It isn't gonna be based on what Shadowrun was like.

Because here it says "2D turn-based single player role playing". This is different from Shadowrun on Xbox 360 and PC where it was a First Person Shooter.

It is obvious that this is an RPG game and not an FPS. Simple reason that it's not coming out for the Consoles as you can see.

I have the Corsair 850 Watt TX Power Supply for the last 2 years, excellent PSU. It also comes with free 5 year warranty.

I bought it back then from ebuyer brand new for £105! It's always best to go for an expensive PSU. Never cheapout on power supply units. They're literally the heart of your computer. A cheap PSU may explode and destroy your components.

Check this youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6FD1b-tYkk

Build a Gaming PC for $350 - February 2013

I think this will do you good for all your light gamings. In fact they'll run mostly all of the games in the world at least in medium settings.

But it is important to know exactly what kind of games you want to play. What do you define by light gaming? If it is World of Warcraft, Torchlight 2, NBA 2K13, Far Cry 1. That may be considered light gaming. But if you are up for Battlefield 3, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, etc and you want to max them out. Then a £400 computer won't be enough.

Unless of-course you have the existing components like RAM, Power Supply and Hard Drive. Then your building may become much cheaper. But if you're buying all of the stuff then it will cost you money.

Hello, I've been using my Optiarc DVD RW AD-5170A for 5 years.

From about a year ago I noticed it stopped reading certain PC DVD games like Shadowrun, Assassins Creed, Stalker: Clear Sky, Tomb Raider, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, etc. While others are read perfectly!

While there are others where it takes to eject and put in 20 times before it successfully reads them! I know it's not a problem with the DVDs because when I test them on my mum and dads PC they are all read perfectly straight away!

This has been a bit frustrating. But luckily most of my other games are on digital Steam and Origin that's why im not 100% dependent on a DVD Drive.

However, I still need one for my other PC Games that I have on Retail DVD.

I tried installing Firmware update for the DVD Drive, nothing helps. It still fails to read the DVDs.

Now I wanted to ask are all Desktop CD/DVD Drives universal as in size and universally compatible?  I want to buy one less than £20.

I was looking at the http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung-24x-sh-224bb-dvd-rw-sata-oem-half-height-89GR.html which is £13.99

and http://www.dabs.com/products/liteon-ihas124-04-24x-sata-dvdrw-hh-internal-drive---black-8HBK.html which is also £13.99

Any other suggestions on a decent DVD Drive at around that price? Are these good replacement options? Will they read all of the CD/DVDs perfectly? I don't want to end up buying one and get disappointed with them failing to read my DVDs like my current DVD Drive. :P

Thanks

As a PC gamer I never put it back to my cupboard.

I have an Xbox 360 controller which is always connected to the PC. While it is connected to the PC. I leave my 360 gamepad onmy lasercolour printer. That way whenever I need to play games like FIFA 11, NBA 2K11 on PC again I take it from my printer, etc. Maybe I need to take a photo for you to understand what I mean. But I guess you get what I am saying. :)
