Again, to me, my pets are my children. I have a very strong bond with them and if I left them to die, I'd feel like I had left my children to die.

I didn't say "My pets are more valuable than children" or anything of the sort.

If you prefer, my pets are my best friends. And I wouldn't leave my best friend to die in a fire if I could help it.
