Epic Metal Concert!!!
by Benevolentbob on Comments
Today (actually I guess it's yesterday now that it's 2 in the morning) my friend (nimatoad2000) and I went into San Francisco to go see Kreator's Hordes of Chaos Tour at Slim's. It was insane! I'm half deaf, sore all over, my lower back hates me, I reek of BO and my ears are still ringing as I type this. All signs of a great metal concert.
Slim's took a while to open the doors, but when they did I was thankful because I was shorts and a T-shirt and it was windy and cold outside. I got a really cool Kreator tour shirt, it isn't the hordes of chaos albm art, it's a demon with huge wings and such. I wanted it right when I saw it. We got a spot fairly close to the front stood around waiting for a while. Eventually Warbringer came on. They were very good especially considering they're fairly new to the thrash metal scene and only have two albums out at the moment. They're definitely one of the best of the newer thrash bands, if not THE best. If thrash ever makes a big comeback these guys will be leading it.
After Warbringer finished up Belphegor came on. I had seen these guys before with Amon Amarth, they're not all that great in my opinion and I think their act is pretty corny but I can tolerate them. I'll admit I actually enjoyed a couple of the songs a little, but overall it was just pretty mediocre. They weren't really on top of their game either, I think they played better when I saw them with Amon Amarth last year. The bbest part of ther performance was the short pregnant-looking guy without a shirt on in the middle of the mosh pit screaming "SATAAAAAN!" at the top of his lungs. His sheer insanity brought a smile to my face.
Once Belphegor was done we waited a good half an hour for Exodus. Probably a fair amount more I wasn't keeping track. Seriously Exodus took their sweet ass time setting up. Once they were good to go it was more than worth the wait. The mosh pit was so crazy you could feel it's reprecussions throughout the entire crowd. You couldn't move in any direction than towards the stage where people were pushing you, it was insane. About this time is when a group of people ahead of me left and my friend and I got to move right up to the front. Exodus played great and they really got the crowd going. The pit was huge in comparison to what Warbringer and Belphegor were able to create. There were people stage diving, and at the end of their act Exodus organized the crowd to perform a wall of death (which was really fun btw). It was absolutely isnane. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better Kreator came on.
Exodus was surely a hard act to follow but Kreator blew all of the other bands away, including Exodus. Kreator played perfectly, no exaggeration. They were, without a doubt, amazing. Mille Petrozza is an awesome frontman. He interacts with the crowd a lot, has a great stage presence, and has a real set of lungs on him. Seriously, this guy was the definition of loud. The pit was huge, and I saw some people crowd surfing. They played like four encores as well, it was crazy.
There were a lot of people on drugs this time, way more than usual. It was an amazing concert and I can't wait to see Kreator again whenever it is that they come back. Next concert that I have tickets for is Opeth with Enslaved in May and then I just recently got my ticket for Mayhem Fest in July as well. Can't wait for the next concert!!!
Had a good day yesterday.

Yesterday I got together with my girlfriend, best friend, his sister, his sister's boyfriend, my sister and her boyfriend and we all went down to Santa Cruz and went to the boardwalk. The entire car ride down (thank god I didn't have to drive) I listened to Devin Townsend's solo stuff and some various black metal groups. Once we got there I got some spicy chicken wings and chili cheese fries, and while they were overpriced they were surprisingly good. We went around and rode all the rides and then got some ice cream and then ate it on the beach. Eventually we decided to make our way to the arcade. It was pretty awesome. I played Punch Out, Rampage, Street Fighter, Percussion Master, Mario kart Arcade GP, and some Neo Geo game that I didn't recognize. Percussion Maste was awesome, especially because I had been wanting to play it since I saw it in a scene in Lost In Translation. Hopefully I'll make a review for it soon. On the car ride back I listened to Strapping Young Lad and Soulfly. Anyway, I hope you guys had a great weekend as well!
Saw Adventureland today.

It was a really good movie in my opinion. It's a lot more serious than Superbad but it certainly has it's funny moments. I might go as far to say that despite it being more serious it was in fact funnier than Superbad. I'll definitely be getting this when it comes out on DVD.
Wow...

Just when I thought Southpark was really starting to lose it's touch they have to go and prove me wrong. While all the episodes of this new season have been mediocre at best up until this point, this week's episode featuring the gay fish joke" was awesome. I guess they had to have at least one genuinely good episode.
My review of Cannibal Holocaust.
by Benevolentbob on Comments
I finally got around to watching this highly controversial horror film, and hopefully some of you will find my review useful.
Contrary to what people who haven't seen Cannibal Holocaust might think, the cannibals aren't the evil ones. This is an extraordinarily cruel and gruesome movie, so those with a weak stomach should stay far away. There's several rape scenes throughout the movie which I can always do without but I suppose it helps portray the evil of man. This is also easily one of the goriest movies I've ever seen, and possibly even the goriest I've ever seen. There's numerous scenes in the movie where animals are genuinely killed on-screen, causing an incredible amount of controversy. These are the scenes I really had to turn away at. As much as I wish that they weren't in there, I know that if they had been showing a native tribe hunting these animals on National Geographic or something nobody would give it a second thought. According to my friend, the animals were actually eaten after they were killed. I have no idea if this is true or not but if it is I don't see a difference between this and hunting a deer or something. Nevertheless, I could have done without it and pretty much turned away the entire time. The movie so disturbing and sadistic that the publishers publish a warning at the beginning that the only reason they published this movie is because they believe in free speech, and the director was fined and sentenced for 10 months in prison on obscenity charges. The directing and cinematography are both surprisingly great, although there are many rumors of the director being extremely cruel and abusive throughout the filming process. Most of the film was shot in the ****of a documentary, making it seem very real at times. In fact, the director was almost charged with murder because people really thought some of the deaths were genuine. The acting is surprisingly good, definitely better than a lot of other horror movies. The soundtrack, again surprisingly, isn't half bad especially considering the genre and time period. It fits the movie pretty well. Cannibal Holocaust is both an incredibly disturbing look at the evil of mankind and an interesting social commentary on what dark, strange, and truly sadistic things we crave as people, and what lengths we're willing to go to satisfy those cravings. I would feel very strange owning this movie, and I'm really not in a hurry to watch it again, but I would recommend at least watching it once through if you think you have the stomach for it.
NEW BLOG (borrowing and lending games, Zelda, and Chrono Trigger oh my!)
by Benevolentbob on Comments
Hey guys, long time no see. I'm thinking of stopping the music reviews because no one really seems to care about them. I may do them from time to time in the future if I feel like it but don't expect weekly ones again unless for some odd reason someone asks me to make one. If you have requests for certain albums I'd be more than happy to review one. I'm going to be taking a break from falling off of buildings in Mirror's Edge and borrowing Devil May Cry 4 from the same guy I borrowed Uncharted from. For those of you who don't know I finished Uncharted and reviewed it, you should check it out under my contributions. In exchange he'll be returning Gears Of War to me and I'll be lending him Dead Rising. Has anyone seen the trailer for the new zelda game on the DS, Zelda: Spirit Tracks? It looks totally awesome in my opinion. I've also been playing a lot of Chrono Trigger on the DS, totally awesome game. You can expect me to begin revamping my past reviews again til they're all up to par with my newer ones, and hopefully I'll have some new reviews up for you guys sometime in the future.
Music Review: The World Needs A Hero
by Benevolentbob on Comments
Album: The World Needs A Hero
Artist: Megadeth
After the abomination that was Risk, a lot of fans and critics alike were afraid to even touch The World Needs A Hero. Megadeth has gotten rid of the commercial rock sound from Risk, and have made an attempt to go back ot the old ways. In terms of overall styl*e they succeed for the most part but still retain some of that commercial friendly sound. The album still isn't as heavy as Megadeth's older stuff, and while the solos are great the riffs themselves are fairly simple. My favorite tracks on the album are "Disconnect", "Moto Psycho", and "Return To Hangar". "1000 Times Goodbye" could have actually been a pretty cool song, but the added in voice-over of the woman leaving him is incredibly lame and cheesy and quite frankly, ruins the song. It's still a little simplistic for my tastes, and I think that Mustaine's vocals aren't as raw here as it has in previous albums, but The World Needs A Hero is going in the direction that Megadeth needed for anyone to take them seriously again.
Btoom Line: A step in the right direction, 3/5 :?.

Music Review: Sonic Firestorm
by Benevolentbob on Comments
Album: Sonic Firestorm
Artist: Dragonforce
This is the album that first got me into Dragonforce. More specifically, the song "Fury of the Storm" was what originally got me into Dragonforce. This album is so fast, and has so much spirit you can't help but love it. The vocals are great if you enjoyed Valley of the Damned, if you haven't listend to that album you may want to sample some stuff before spending money on this one because his vocal sty*le isn't for everyone. He's a bit more dynamic in octave levels this time around which I personally find to be an improvement. This album is absolutely filled to the brim with energy, and you can feel it when you listen to it. The drumming and bass are tight and bring out some creative stuff. The guitar work is even more fast paced than in Valley of the Damned. My favorite tacks on the album are "Fury of the Storm", "Soldiers of the Wastelands", and "Once In a Lifetime". If you're looking to get into Dragonforce this is probably the best place to start. This still remains my faovrite Dragonforce album.
Bottom Line: An Insanely fast, and insanely awesome album, 5/5 :D.
Music Review: Evisceration Plague
by Benevolentbob on Comments
Album: Evisceration Plague
Artist: Cannibal Corpse
Ok, so the album art is kind of lame, but nothing can be lamer than KILL's album art and the album art doesn't even really matter in the first place. Corpsegrinder's awesome vocals are back and he sounds more polished than ever as he fills the album with deafening screams and low pitched growls. Lyrically this is Cannibal Corpse's most competent album by far, they make much more sense and are much more coherent than in previous albums. The bass player is absolutely crazy as always, the absolute best in the business in my opinon. This is some of the drummer's most creative work and he really stands out here especially when compared to his repetitive bore-fest on KILL. The guitar work is complicated and intricate as always, but a little less technical and more melodic this time around, although it's still just about the farthest thing from melodic death metal you can find. They still sound like Cannibal Corpse so they aren't ruining their image, but at the same time I appreciate the added melody. All the solos are great except for the one on "A Cauldron of Hate", which was just incredibly lame, he essentially went through scales really fast. My favorite tracks on the album are "To Decompose", "Carniverous Swarm" and "Evisceration Plague". One of my favorite Cannibal Corpse albums and I managed to get an autographed copy of it, I highly recommend it.
Bottom Line: One Of Cannibal Corpse's Best, 5/5 :D.
