Why did Nintendo even bother adding in GC backward compatibility in Wii if they're going to abandon the GC base so soon? Might as well take the backward compatibility out to save them tons of money. banjobear_basic

Backwards compability is actually a pretty brilliant move. All the people that wanted to play just one or two specific games on the Gamecube, and didnt wanna buy one for that reason, will actually often use those games as a reason to buy a Wii, even if the Wii doesnt currently have a game they want. Also, along with being able to download and play so many great Nintendo classics, coupled with the Gamecube compability, makes for a huge bang-for-the-buck Nintendo "greatest hits" machine. Besides, everyone else was doing it :P

I actually found LTTP a lot easier to beat, but might just be because I played it fanatically for ages when I was a kid, and ended up being able to finish it start-to-end in a few hours in the end...

The amount of Gamecube games in stores here in Denmark is per definition low (I'm been looking for a used MGS: Twin Snakes copy for ages), but it definetely makes sense. The Gamecube, like it or not, had tons of amazing games. I still rank Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness as some of the best gaming experiences ever, and Tales of Symphonia still holds up today.

I'd definetely hold out till there's more than one game you want to play. Games that arent out yet always look great, but wait for a few reviews from sources you trust, and then decide. A Metal Gear Solid game usually takes 15 hours or so the first time you play through it, and though its top notch quality, 5-600$ is a lot for that amount of entertainment. I wanted to play FFX badly as well, but waited up until GTA: San Andreas was released to actually buy a PS2.

Had part time jobs since I was 16 (24 now). Asacollegestudent in Denmark, all education is free, and you do get money from the state every month to cover living expenses, so that covers my rent and food budget. Apart from my college studies, I use a good portion of my spare time working for a temp bureau, not as a temp, but doing job interviews, booking, customer contact and so on. But again, this is Denmark, so 40% of that goes back to the state :P

Nice thread

PS3: Much lower price (900$ here), some must-have titles. I honestly dont see any must-haves out atm.

Xbox360: Pretty much just the cash. Lots of games on it I want to play. Wouldnt hurt with a few more RPGs, Mass Effect looks to be a good start.

Wii: Price is fine, just lack some real "wow, the technology is more than a gimmick!" games. I have no problem with the consoles graphical abilities.

My 42" HD TV is just waiting for one of those babies... I cant run 1080p, but 1080i will have to do :P

Dude has a point. No MGS games were AAAA titles, and when it comes down to it, what new does number 4 bring to the table? They cant really make the story better, the gameplay might have small adjustments, but probably not much. "Oh, its prettier! Lets give it a 10!"

1998 takes the cake as the best period for games.

Half-Life

Metal Gear Solid

StarCraft

Ocarina Of time

MetalContra

Baldurs Gate!! Also think Fallout 2 came out in '98?
