Game Playing Report 4/19/09

I have not posted about games lately but I have been playing. Since it has been so long I do not know what I played last time, or what i have beaten since then.

I do know this. I played, but did not yet beat Bionic Commando: Rearmed. I made it to the last level and haven't played it in awhile after trying a few times. I had played and beat the priginal version of the game. Despite what people say, the game is not that hard. What is hard about the gmae is adjusting to the control and by that not havingthe ability to jump. The last level is kind of hard too, only because you have to go a long way. Anyways I plan on going back and I will beat it,..again.

I played Little Big Planet some but did not beat that yet either. I like it but I agree the jumping is very floaty and it makes it annoying. I think if the do a secquel what they should do is make it so you adjust physics in user made levels maybe though the use of sliders as well as things like gravity. Anyway i heard the game is short so I will be finishing this too.

Pixel Junk Monsters is fun and like other desktop tower defense games I am only ok at it. But I like it. i have not beat it and somehow I doubt I will. I bought the expansion to it as well.

Dawn of War 2I like a lot more than I thought I would. I had put a bunch of hours into it but the last time I played it I cose to save and quit to windows and the game BSOD'd and I guess it corrupted my save file so now I have to start over. Anyway I will going back to this one later. I will say though i would have preffered a full RTS rather than this squad based centric one. Prefferebly one that followed the mold set by Dark Crusade.

Empire: Total War is as I expected it to be, a Total War game. I still like these. The big edition this time is navel battle and I can't sayI like them much. There is way to much micromanagement so I just AI fight these now after a few tries. Ah well, people clamored for it and they got it. Other than that the new thing is a new setting. I am currently playing as Brittian and doing pretty well. This is the one of the games I currently playing.

Rayman Raving Rabbits. I started playing this ages ago but I have starting playingit again with an attempt to beat it. I have been alternating my time between this and Empire right now.

Kingdom Hearts, I started this awhile ago. Its ok, but not great. I have not touched it in awhile now but do plan on going back to beat it at some point.

Ultima 1(NES), another I started awhile ago but haven't played in awhile now either. I will go back though because I always wanted to beat this when I owned the game as kid but was never good enough I guess. Note to readers: There was no internet back then or any of the perks that go along with it. So you could either figure a game out on your own, or maybe know someone who can help or you were screwed.

Madden 09, Still playing my Patriots franchise. In my second season. My first ended with me winning the superbowl. Taking a break from the game right now though to play other things.

Predraft State of the Franchise Quickie Thoughts: NFC West

Arizona Cardinals: Last seasons should have been superbowl winners truned up as the losers but they came soo close to beating the Steelers and really should have. Anyway, they lost. They now look to be losing Boldin one of thier great WR's. I just can't see this team making it back to the big game this next season though and even when I think about it now it is still head scratcher that they made it at all. They did only finish 9-7 though and could see them doing that again and even winning the division if you consider the other teams in it. However the Seahawks could take that crown back and 49'ers didn't finsh much worse and could improve this season.

San Francisco 49'ers: This team was kind of a mess changing coaching staff in the middle season to Singleterry who is kind of a nut. And they also switched QB's a position they still seem unsure about. They finsihed 7-9 and I guess they could do that agin but I guess it depends on thier QB situation. Not sure on this one.

Seattle Seahawks: This team has owned the division for awhile but with QB Hasselbeck injured it was just not happening last season. Holmgren is no Belichek after all. Holmgren by the way is now gone. I would expect this team to do better next season, but I am ot sure if they will be good enough to beat the Cards.

-------------------

Ok that is all the divisions and I am done with this. I do not plan on revisting this after the draft other than talking about my team and maybe other teams in my team's division though.

St Louis Rams: Ok the got Spagnola (SP?) the Giants D-coordinator as thier new caoch. Unless he is a mircle worker though I just don;t see this team going much further this season. They will win more than two games though, but I could still easily seeing them finishing last in this division again.

Predraft Sate of the Franchise: NFC South

Carolina Panthers: The Panthers looked good last season and won thier division. Then Delhomme, who must have gotten some QB'ing tips from Brett Favre, andthrew like 5 picks in a single game totally blowing the chances. I think this team will do about the same same next season, maybe slightly worse.

Atlanta Falcons: What the hell. 2 rookie QB's take thier teams to the playoffs in a single season. I think the same thing here applies to Flacco up in Baltimore in that it remains to be seen whether this guy Ryan is the real deal or a fluke. I think they will do a little worse next season but they will still probably beat the Buccs who are mess and the Saints who just can't seem to win much of anything.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Buccs started out well and then for some reason thier defense, for which they are known for, just fell apart. The team changed coaches. I have no idea who the new guy is though. They also let Jeff Garcia go and yet to replace him with anyone worth a damn. Not sure what thier plan is but if they pln to groom a new Qb from the ones they got than that is respectable, but I am not sure it will result in winning season. I expect this team to be worse.

New Orleans Saints:I really do not know what to think of the Saints. They have good QB and a good RB but can't see, to win anything that matters. Bush is hurt like constantly that certainly doesn not help. And as good as Brees can be it hard to win when your all the team has that is working right. I could see this team doing about the same and by that I mean coming in last and missing the playoffs again.

Predraft Sate of the Franchise: NFC North

Chicago Bears; After like 3 years of QB indesicion the Bear have finally got rid of Rex Grossman whose contract expired, and now Kyle Orton who was traded to the Broncos in exchange for the city's apparent new savior, Jay Cutler. So the Bear win now huh? Dunno. Cutler puts up decent number stat-wise but has seen a playoff game yet. Oh and let us not forget he is baby. Even Tony Romo pulls that off. The team went 9-7 and judging by the other teams in this division I could see them doing it again next year and making the playoffs. If not It will be the Vikings but that team is about as poorly run as this one and they still have a Qb problem at the moment.

Minnesota Vikings: Unlike the Bears this team still has QB problems and the guy that they drafted from the Texans won't help much I do not think. Peterson can run but you need pass to help with that as the team will be too predictable and Peterson will get broken down. Still I think it is toss up between the Bears and this team on who takes the division.

Green Bay Packers: The Packers moved on last season from Mr. Interception himself Brett Favre who them decided to come back. Theteam made theright move though and Farve, as usual acted like his normal selfish self. Enter thier new QB Rogers. He did not have a great year last season but then he sat behind Farre who refused to mentor his relplacemnt. Rogers clearly tried to emulate favre styel, which is undislined tossing up the ball and hoping for the best and it worked about as well for him as it did for Mr. INT. The Packers awitch to 3-4 D this year which I think could throw another wrench in this team this year. I think they will end up about the same, maybe pulling off another win, maybe two but will miss thr playoffs.

Detroits Lions: Um yeah, 0-16 last season. They will not repeat that but they will still be dead last this season unless something catastrphic happnes to the other teams. I do not foresee theis team pulling a Miami Dolphins and winning thier division after a terrible season though, which required such the afore mentioned event to happen.

Predraft Sate of the Franchise: NFC East

NY Giants: The Giants didn't end up with SB hangover as they played pretty good after lucking thier way into winning one 2 season ago. However it wasn't good enough and they lost in playoffs. They lost Plaxico Burress who might as well be related to T.O. with his on and off the field stupidity and they certainly need a better WR. They did however play mostly without him last season so I could see them doing about the same as last year, 12-4.But then Eli is an inconsistant QB and it this team could just as easily be worse.

Philadelphia Eagles: This team needed a miracle to make the playoffs and somehow they got it just to totally blow it when they got there. They have let go quite few players in the offseason, none of which seemed like it will help the team. They need another RB and better WR and as right now they have not filled those needs. I could easily see this team missing the playoffs next season, but maybe they will get lucky and Dalls will be worse and the Redskins won;t improve much.

Dallas Cowboys: The NFL's version of circus got little worse last year under its curent era of the team missing the playoffs once again led by Romo's screw ups and Owen's special ability to wreck teams. He is now gone, as is Pacman Jones, the other distraction. The team however retains Wade Phillips, the coach who doesn't know how to lead. Now T.O. may be pain but he does produce and not having him may hurt the team, that remains to be seen though. I can't really say now whether the team will be better or not so for now I will say they will finsish about the same as last year 9-7 but this season they will probably make the playoffs just to gt get knowcked out in the first round again. Probably by something Romo does. Is any one surprised that his hero was Favre? Lol.

Washington Redskins: Got Hayensworth for like a bizzillion dollars but they still have Jason Cambel who stinks in my opinion. Still though I could see them getting better than last season, at least getting a better record than Philly. How much better I think hinges on how Dalls performs and how the Giants perfrom.

Predraft Sate of the Franchise: AFC West

San Diego Chargers: The Charger have now under the coaching of Norv Turner made it to the playoffs again last season, but barely. the Chargers have been known to start off slow and last season they could niot have gotten any slower. The still have LT but the guy is broke every year, especially by the time the playoffs roll around so I am not sure how much that matters. Anyway they will get Merimam(SP?) back this season. I guess they will be better, but not by much. Oh and they managed a win against the Pats last season, don;t think they will pull that off this season though. Last season was thier chance to win it all and they blew it.

Denver Broncos: Broncos should have won thier division last season. Instead they blew it losing most of there last 4 or so games in row. I do not know the last time the Broncos made the playoff but I do thatwith Cutler QB'ing them they have missied 3 years in row. He is gone now after being a total baby and crying his way out of Denver. The team also fired Shanahan imediately after thier season ended and now they have McDaniels running the show who is the main reason why they lost Cutler since he may have tried to trade him. Now they have no real QB. They did however get oorton from the Bears and a lot of draft picks. Personally if they can manage to get another QB, like Sanchez, thin this draft they got the better deal. At this point though since I do not who will QB they will probably do worse this season.

Oakland Raiders: Better than the Chiefs, but not by much. I am not convinced that Jamarcus Russel is any good. He looks terrible to me. I am also not convinced with how good of a HB McFadden is either. Al Davis is terrible owner that makes bad decions I have to wonder if that team will ever be good until he gone. They did only win 5 games though last year and changed coaches in the during the season. Cable is back I think though and even with all the questions I could see them getting a little better.

Kansas City Chiefs: Another bad season for the Chiefs who probably were best knwon last season for taking out Brady.. Herm dwards was fired and now the team has Matt Cassel as thier QB. I am curious to see how they do. I expect them to do better, but maybe not much. I think Cassel is good enough to be better than Jay Cutler, but it also depends on the team that surrounds him too.

NFL Predraft State of the Franchises. - AFC South

Tennessee Titans: The Titans were last team to lose a game last season and lost it to of all teams the Jets and many thought they were SB bound for sure and the thought was strengthened when they beat the Steelers. It was just not to be. Now they have lost Haynesworth and I guess it remains to be seen how they be next year. He was certainly a great player but I think the team should be able to endure. I suspect they will be worse than last year thoiugh.

Houston Texans: I do not know much about the Texans other than they have not been that great since being added to the league. Last Season they finished 8-8 which still isn;t great, but not bad either but they are going to have to get better if they plan on competing with the likes of the Colts and Titans

Indianapolis Colts: The Colts started out slow last season with Manning missing all preseason recovering from an operation it took about half the season for the team to get going. They have a new coach this season with Dungy deciding to retire but he was hired from within so you would expect things to go a little better, however you never can tell because he is not the same guy. Because of that I suspect they will do about the same.

Jacksonville Jaguars: What they hell happned to the Jags last season? They did great in the previous season and were justa non factor in this last season. I guess they lost players and were riddled with injured. That seems like an excuse though, talk the Patriots about injuries last season, they had more and bigger ones and did better. Still I expect more from this team next season.

NFL Predraft State of the Franchises. - AFC North

Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens had a pretty good run last season under new QB Joe Flacco and when things like that happen I think we find out in the next season whther this is just how it is going to be with him or was it just a fluke. If I am not mistaken I beleive the Raven also lost thier Defensive Coordinator who went off to become a head coach so that also leaves question on how thier D will be this as well. Considerinfg those two whammys they might do a little worse this season.

Cincinnati Bengals: I have no faith in Bengals to be any good. I think Palmer could be s good QB but doesn't he get injured like every year and end up not playing out the season. Seems like it. And then there is Ocho Cinco or hiowever its spelled. Could be a great WR but is just too much about himself. Finally we have thier coach, Marvin Lewis. I think he sucks and every year i am surprised he doesn't get fired.

Cleveland Browns: Eric Mangini was fired by Jets and hired by the Browns. I don't know but the Browns just seem like a team that just can't catch a break as something is always going wrong with them. Anyway they still are messing around with thier QB situation with Anderson and Quinn have to fight for the position this season. No matter who wins both are higher paid so it eats up cap space having them both there. Stallworth, thier WR is probably going to jail for killing man by driving drunk. Edward thier other WR couldn;t cath last season and they lost thier TE Winslow to the Buccs I think. Not sure I expect much from these guys this year either.

Pittsburgh Steelers: The luckiest team in football won its sixth championship last season. If the Browns can't catch break and get any luck this team had it all. I guess the biggest question I have is will thier D be as good this year. I have feeling teams will play them better because last season was really the coming out party for thier coach and now people have better idea how plays it could affect how well they do too. Not to mention both the usual teams to beat in the AFC were a little down last season, the Colts and the Pats. With that mind if those teams are in theier usual form the Steelers probably will not do as well whether thier D is as good or not because they have been beaten before when they were the so-called best D in football and it can happen again. And repeating is almost out of the question.I could see them with about the same record as last season or a little worse.

NFL Predraft State of the Franchises. -AFC East

Done by division just a little on each team, if anything.

AFC East

Buffalo Bills: Hey they added TO that should help right? Probably yes. TO is known for being very productive his first year at every team he has been with. That being said I thik the situation is much different in Buffalo. Also if you thought he dropped a lot of passes in Dallas just waitt ill he plays in wintery mess that is Buffalo. Can't really say how the team will do But they couldn't beat the Pats even wthout Brady last season.

NY Jets: The Jets improved last year that was for sure but in the Favre did what he does best, throw INT's. The end result was Mangini getting canned. Now they have new coach, Rex Ryan is it? They also have at least two nobody's for QB's. that unless end up being surprisingly good this year aren't likely to be good enough to compete. Since the coach is not from the exsisting system I think that will hinder the team as well. They would be lucky to finish with the previous years record I think.

Miami Dolphins: Easily the surprise team of the league last season I honestly cannot predict how they will do this year. My feeling though is not as good as last season because I feel alot of thier success was based on the surprise of no one thinking they would be challenge.

NE Patriots: Brady went down in the frst game of the season and the whole league changed, especillay with the division. I think the Pats are already a better team than last year and maybe even the previous year. The success of his team and really how the other teams do I think rides a lot how well Brady can play and how long it takes him to get back into the groove if he can.

Just some Stuff

I broke down and bought Madden 2009 making this the first time I have bought more than 1 Madden game in a generation and I happy I did because 09 is way better than 08. Unfortunately I had to restart my franchise but its okI guess.

I also have bought Dawn of War 2 and Empire: Total War but haven't really got to playing them yet. I played DoW2 a little. Not sure how I feel about it yet. Not sure I like the new direction which unfortunately is what the next Company of Heroes expansion is going to be more like. I find, disappointing. I wanted them to continue going the way they said they were. More theaters of operation, more factions. Hopefully it still does.

I have talked about school in a loooong time. I'm still doing it. Not enjoying it much. I am in my last week of an Algebra 2 class which I hated. Looks like I will pass though. Not sure what is up next bu pretty coon, like 1 or tow more classes from now it will be nothing but programming classes from there on out. I know one thing, assuming I get this degree I doubt, seriously doubt I will be doing any more school trying to get my Masters degree. I could see me maybe getting another degree in something else,....maybe, assuming they would let me and could get the funding I do now.

By the way I have to say that Wii saturation in the US finally seems to have happened because I see them in stores everytime I go now, fully stocked.

I am a littl worried about what the next generation will be like. I will pretty upset if Sony and MS follow Nintendo and just go casual. Don;t get more wrong some casual games are blast but more suck than not and I like games that do more than simple things. Plus I would want graphics to go back to PS2 era. I still have been picking up PS2 games I missed which i believe I mentioned before. They are pretty ugly compared to the 360 and PS3. I mean I would liek to see systems become more upgradeable personally. Rather than buying an entirely new system every 5 years, which is dumb. Why no not make it so the graphics chip and memory can be easily changed. I don't know but it seems smarter considering that hardware is the biggest money sink to just sell what is needed rather than trying to sell the other stuff everytime along with it too.
