I just checked the model of the CPU I bought and found out that the video memory can handle up to 256MB shared. mikemil828
......huh? Video cards these days don't take memory from the system unless it really has to, modern video cards come with their own memory dedicated to it.
Ok, fine, lets figure out what you have. Crack open your case and look at the memory, do both sticks of memory look identical?
Also while you are at it what video card do you have?
I have an integrated GeForce 6100 n430 video card plus I asked someone the PC hardware and he told me that some integrated video take away some memory from the ram. I haven't tried to disable my video card yet because I am not exactly sure how to disable it without doing any damage to my pc. I also used the progam CPU-Z to check my ram, and it seems that I have 1GB memory. I am not sure though if it is reliable.
So thats why, anyway if you want to use all of your ram you will need an actual video card, not just some mobo solution. to disable an integrated video card, you will have you use the BIOS to turn it off
How do i turn it off using the bios? I am going to get a new video card soon. I am just waiting for a price cut on Ge Force 7600GT. I read in gamespot that the Nvidia 8800 is about to come out. I don't want to buy a video card then it had a price cut after I bought it. If it doesn't have a price cut, I might as well buy one(the GeForce 7600GT)
Every Bios is slightly different, so I can't really tell you how to turn it off, but to get into the bios you will probably need to press delete while the system is booting.
Ok, I will try it out when I get home. What will happen if I turn off the bios for the video card? Will my computer still run?
If you disable your integrated video card, then your screen will be blank, unless you have an actual video card and plug in your monitor there, needless to say, wait until you get your new video card before you start changing stuff.
Ok, thanks for the help and time.
